Q3 still....clearly the TV program people were not familiar with the book "Bicycles in the Bush" or with Percy Armstrong's son Paul, a current Australian historic racer-- and Percy did it in the century previous to the Douglas

:rotfl: :rotfl: Good Morning All,,,
Hi .Seldo..Yes I did enjoy your different slant on the Cat joke on P 67,,Sorry still
not as good as mine.!!(But am prepared to be told otherwise )

Hi John Medley The error that I made was I should have said.....MOTOR VEHICLE...
But it would be interesting to hear more details about the very early ride around Aussie
on a Bicycle..
I had a look at the Autralian Motorlife Museum website,,and they DO have a good collection
so if any TNF members are down that way..(Kembla Grange ,near Wollongong ) it would be
worth a look.. While I thought it was all motor vehicles there,,I did spot a bicycle on display..

Hi David Shaw.,,I pick Wednesday with the hope that it won.t interfere with motoring week
ends and similar gatherings,,But if there are less meetings on a Monday or Tuesday ,speak up
it.s all the same to me..Also ,no reason why someone else can.t plan a quiz.!! I don.t own the
rights to quiz.s...

(Keep your head down today ,still..No word that ITS landed yet )

The version I was afraid to suggest was the "lucky" cat that went under the dual wheels of a truck, but rather than being squashed became wedged between the tyres, hence Bang Meaow etc.,

I'm tied up most Wednesdays until 7:20, but once a month I have an 8:00 meeting on a Wednesday. It's just unfortunate that the last 2 quizzes have coincided with the meetings.

Somebody else could plan a quiz, although I find yours a very enjoyable mix of questions and a good relaxed feel to them.

 For Australian Members,,at midday today (in 30 minutes ) on the Collectors Programme,,
ABC 1..there may be a repeat of coverage of the Australian Motorlife Museum which may show
(Or may not ) the same model Douglas Motorcycle ,,which was the first (or second )motor
vehicle to fully travel around Australia by land..

Thank you David for your kind comments ,I will try a Tuesday next time to see if we get any more
contenders..(Who said "I could have been a Contender !!)....Yes Sylvester.

That's not how you worded the question, Ron. In the question it says 'F1/GP RACE at his FIRST RACE'. The forward slash indicates either/or, so the answer has to be someone who won either an F1 or a GP race in their first ever motor race. Allan's answer of Christian Lautenschlager fits this. :)

Christian Lautenschlager's racing record as a driver can be found in this thread:

Christian Lautenschlager remembered

The only correct answer should be: No one. Sorry for missing out.

Why not Lautenschlager?

Was the 1908 Grand Prix not his first-ever race?

Hang on... hang on...

What about Frank Pratt? Wasn't the Australian Grand Prix of 1948 his first race (in a car)?

But that was a handicap race, and Dick Bland(3rd) set the fastest time. Did Pratt get 2 minutes more handicap than he should have?

But, like Ronmac, he was apparently New Zealand-born, so that counts for double points.

True that David didn't know? Well, one would hope he isn't fibbing to us!

As for the handicapping, that is unlikely to have been an issue. Many of the drivers in these events drove so infrequently that their skills would be unknown anyway.

 Well look at that,,Ray Bell,David Mc Kinney ,Arjan de Roos and Wenoopy still chatting a week
after Quiz 18..!
Q 25..Was from "Top 100 F 1 Drivers OF ALL TIME "BY Alan Henry, who said on page 203.....
Giancarlo Baghetti ,the only man to have won a Maiden GP Victory..
It appears that he may be wrong,,Also I should not have included F 1 ,in the question..
But I gave a point to Altitude for Baghetti ,,and also a point for Lautensonlager ,otherwise
it would take all day to sort..This did not change the winner.
Too hard for me to be 100 % right on motor racing subjects ,you guys have forgotten more
than I will ever know.

Q 13..Arttidesco caught me out with his answer ..1902 Cadillac ,,What I was looking for was..
The German Hanomag Komisbrot Korbwagon ,Though Arttidesco.s answer ticked all the box,s.
Small,10 h.p , Two seater ,Single cylinder ,Speeds to about 60 K.P.H.

Arjan..Thanks for your help ,I did contact my friend John Tiekink in the Netherlands,,Who just
now is holidaying in The U.S.A. Thank.s again.

As it was question 13 I thought it was a trick question about the 'small' car given Caddy's are more commonly associated with land yachts, now if you had said German car I might have got the Hanomag ;)
