I have recently purchased the Jack Murray Cadillac powered Allard J2 which raced in Australia as follows:
Easter Bathurst 1951 Dnf
October 1951 Bathurst, 6th
Australian Grand Prix 1952, 4th place
Australian Grand Prix 1954, Dnf
Would anyone have any period photos of the car in Jack Murray's ownership and in the ownership of the Firth family who kept it for 54 years and 23,000 miles.
James Wiiliam (Bill) Firth ran the car in hillclimbs and the drags at Castlereagh where it was alleged to have run in the 12s with a spare supercharged Cadillac engine which remains with the car. Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you. I have most of those in period & recent books. I am looking for Australian photos that have not been previously published and particularly of the period in Bill Firth's ownership?
Thanks again Terry Healy

The Harry Smith car is not an Allard as far as I am aware. I owned it over 30 years ago & had many experts at that time inspect it whose memories of Alllards are perhaps fresher than today & the consensus was it was not.

I'm not sure if this helps?
I took this pic at Fishermans Bend in 1954 and have it labelled as H Hurst

You need, therefore, to post on this thread:

HI..I have 16. MM movie film of a J2 Allard raced by Des Wild at Mairehau Road Races ,Christchurch
in 1952..The movies have been transferred onto DVD.. I don.t know if this Allard is on the Allard Register.
Perhaps someone will tell me..If you need more history of this vehicle,,I have good contacts in Christchurch.
I also have the DVD of most of the Mairehau Races.

It was J2059, if that helps. The other, and more successful, NZ J2 was (is) J2088

I have a couple of photos I took 1958 / 1959 at Mt Druitt & Castlereagh, the car was red in period ?
Send me your details or see me at Eastern Creek historics next weekend. :)

We do have 1 shot of Jack Murray in the car at Orange in 1955 on the oldracephotos.com website gtamerica. Just type Jack Murray into the Advanced Search at the bottom of the category list in the Online Store will bring it up. Not great quality but a shot none the less (scanned off a small print).
