I know it wont appeal to many on here but BSB is where we are right now in this country & I still enjoy it (even though its dressed up proddy bike racing! :D )
Love this shot of Tom Sykes on the Paul Bird entered Stobart Honda Fireblade from 2007.

Very nice pic Graham. What camera, lens etc? and do you use anything like Photoshop to "enhance" your images?

Unique shot of Haydon....he's still upright! :)

Evening Robin, thank you, I have a Canon EOS30D (2006 vintage) with a 300mm zoom lens, & I do adjust the photos if need be, usually a bit of contrast, the older pics were taken with my old Praktica camera with a 200mm telephoto lens & the negs have been photo shopped to bring back the colour a little.
Re James Haydon, he won race one here @ Snetterton & became the first rider to give the RC45 Honda its first win, in this the 2nd race he fell off!! :rotfl:

i dont have many days that go by when i dont think of hizzy, another wasted talent by the acu and the corrupt, just like robert dunlop was.

to think steve was running with likes of biaggi in the euro championships and was winning macua on 500s, its sad to see how he was mugged off.

the bsb was good then took a drop for me when the 1000s came in and then i left it when the haslam/lavilla ducatis pulled out as they made it at least interesting.

Hi Graham - you're not alone, I'm enjoying your pictures and what a great thread. Yes BSB, probably doesn't appeal to a lot of people on this forum, but it's still nostalgia (isn't it) ?

I really enjoyed the photos of Hizzy - I've posted before, but he is a hero of mine. Fast on shorts or the roads; 2 stroke or 4 stroke; small or large capacity. But never more so, it seemed, than when he felt he was the underdog. I remember his rides on Ray Stringer's private Sabre Airways Kawasaki after he was "sacked" by the official Kawasaki team. Or, what about his rides on the Cadbury Boost Yamahas when he & Niall Mackenzie were bashing fairings and putting each off the track (at Snetterton ?) - hard riding from 2 fiercely hard riders. And of course, the win on the Abus Norton at the TT :)

Keep them coming.

Mark.

i will join you folks on here with some pics soon!

im sure that was 97 when steve was sacked by ben atkins on the red bull ducatis then got a one off at mallory on the works kawasaki [when they were works bikes :)] when rymer got injured and promptly finished 2nd, then ray gave him the sabre airways bike for knockhill, never forget that day.

sadly my camera i had at the time was crap and the pictures from that meeting are pretty poor i have but mackenzie got taken out at the first corner in race one and i was at the hairpin when they came round and steve was in second, the place went nuts.

i remeber going to friday practice 98 at knockhill when him and macca were on the boost bikes and it was raining [whats new] and they were coming out of the hairpin and deliberitly spining up the back wheels so whoever was following would get a soaking. steve surely shone on the kawasakis though.

Graham,

Thanks for starting this thread. In all honesty, British Superbike racing was my introduction to motorcycle competition (in 1996), and I still find it to be the branch of motor racing that I enjoy the most. Jamie Whitham was the most spectacular rider back then, but there has been no shortage of talent in the series - too many names to mention here. I have been writing reports on the series since 2002, which some of you may have seen online. I am not up-to-date this year for various reasons, but anyway was very glad to see Tommy Hill get the title he deserved recently, especially with such a dramatic final lap. I wonder if you have any pictures from this year that I could use on my site? And also keep up the posts of the older photographs.

Hi Dan, nice to hear from you, it was great to see Tommy Hill win at last, what a thrilling race that final race was!!
Sadly no pics from this year, plenty from 2010 if you need any?
Best,
G.
PS lots more from the early years to come, thanks for your kind comments. :D

David Pickworth raced the odd Bimota with the Tesi? steering for a while in BSB & British Champs meets in 1993, I believe he is the importer of Bimotas?

Took some at a BSB meeting through the wire fence which is out of focus but makes the image a bit soft, Its I think from the exit of the Melbourne haipin, and I was standing on a small wall in the paddock. I think its John Reynold's but I have forgot the year. I was using my Olympus OM2 with slides. I'll look and try and find some others....

On fire Gra, some of your best stuff mate. Even the dreaded Andrew Stroud in there : from nearly 18 years ago, and he's STILL racing...in fact, as well as being in the mix for the NZ Superbike title each and every year, he's the reigning Australian 500 Classic champ from Phillip Island last year.

Found a Stroudy doco recently : a good soldier...

Thanks Glenn. :D

Re Andrew Stroud, what a lovely family, but I really have mixed feelings about the Documentary (good though it was) vis a vis him still racing @ his age & with such a large family that he has.
