That particular Cagiva was an ugly bike IMO. Hard to believe it was built by Italians who's cars and bikes are generally great to look at.

Good point, Sarge. By 1989 it was the sexiest thing out there, and by '92 a GP winner.

But yep, that early one is a piggy.

Was just thinking the same, it looks like they borrowed a fairing and seat from another bike which doesnt fit but they bunged it on anyway

Alfred Schmid Silverstone 125GP 1977, this was the 1st ever GP run on mainland UK, and for some reason they (ACU) decided to run it on the Saturday!?

Eeer....Right hander Glen ? :drunk:

Anyway, I see what you mean. Phil actually fell off at Clearways a few laps later, right in front of where I was standing on this very cold day. Not sure though if his machine tripped over the dragging exhaust, or if he lost it for some other reason.

No the exhaust broke off & went under the back wheel & 'orf' he went, no picture coz it was just as he entered the dip on Clearways & past my focus point. :well:

....which means ( as we worked out a while ago already :) ) that I must have been standing roughly 100 yards to your right Graham, since he hit the banking exactly in front of me !

......aboard the unloved, unreliable and not often used watercooled KR500 triple, it seems....

And before someone shoots me down in flames : yes, I know Mick Grant won the TT on the same machine, but Yendor ( Rod Scivyer) has told us somewhere on the forum about his experience as a mechanic on this model, and the circumstances on the Isle of Man . A very good read if you care to look for it .

A day when the 500 went really well, here Barry Ditchburn involved in a cracking scrap with Barry Sheene in the 500cc Shellsport race @ King of Brands 1975, Sheene won with Ditch 2nd, this race was notable also, as it was Barry Sheene first win after his big Daytona crash.

What a terrible day (weather wise) this was!! lucky to get any decent shots, here is Giancarlo Falappa who appeared to revel in the conditions, going on to win both legs of the "Irish" round of World Superbikes @ Brands Hatch 1993 by the proverbial "country mile".

Always thought with the opportunities he had, Crosby should have achieved a lot more. He was both a Suzuki and Yamaha works rider despite never winning a GP. How did that happen? Was it all a case of vitimin C?

Best you read Croz's book. From where I sit, he has a pretty reasonable CV for the very few years he spent in Europe :-)

Was Croz riding for Yamaha when we had those A & B tyres nonsense, the B tyres for the #2 riders about 1/2sec a lap slower?

Peterd, I hope you didn't understand my comment to be a negative criticism of Croz. He was a very good racer, no doubt about that. But I think you will agree with me when I say, anyone who had the opportunity to ride for both major factories at the time, and who never managed to win a GP, has to be considered to have under performed, even by his own high standards.
As for his book, I will be ordering it today. Thanks for the tip.

No worries, Sarge. Another Kiwi, Chris Amon, went through F1 without winning a GP, too. Hasn't done his rep any harm. And I get the feeling Croz isn't losing any sleep over never winning a GP! I mean, he only ever started 27 GPs and stood on the podium 10 times, in between those TT, Daytona and Suzuka wins . . . and negotiating a multitude of political minefields. :)
