Last weekend's Prescott "Autumn Classic" Hillclimb (Oct 1-2) featured Patrick Morgan's 1990 Penske PC19, driven with some spirit by Gary Ward.
Is this the first time a Penske has appeared at a British hillclimb not situated on Lord March's driveway?

Other cars at this American-themed event included....

Ol' Yeller (Yella?) apparently resident in Britain for the next year, so we might see a lot more of it.

The White steamer "Whistling Billy" recreation. The owner says the original (wrecked in 1912) used mostly standard running gear and this is built from genuine White components from the same year and of the same spec. At present it has not run as it's awaiting a steering box.

One of many rather tasty Ford flat head Hot Rods

Not American, but what the hell... Gillian Goldsmith with her ex Martin Brain Cooper-Daimler V8. Until this year the car had been lounging in a Swiss(?)museum for two decades. Sounded great!

A very nice event with remarkably warm and sunny autumnal weather and a good crowd....and the Wall of Death was FREE! And very popular.

I'm beginning to wonder if anyone saw this link posted a few days ago, Patrick's PC26 at Rockingham. The second video is dreadfully short, but the engine sound makes my hair stand on end!

Did you ask the owner of the PC 19 if he would be interested in a Libre series at Castle Combe Simon ?

Equally interesting has any premier USAC, CART or even IRL vehicle appeared on a hill or sprint apart from on the Goodwood estate ?

My brother Richard had the ex-Dan Gurney Indy Lotus 29 for a few years in the 90's and regularly competed at Prescott and Shelsley Walsh. I drove it once at Curborough and it was no fun at all.

Did the offset suspension or gearing play a factor in reducing the fun ?

No, the gearing was ok and the suspension was on its symmetrical settings. It was a nightmare to start, I think because the alloy crankcase shrank around the big end bearings and made it hard to turn; we should have had a pre-heating system.
The steering was heavy and the gearbox clunky, both of which would have been fine at Indy, but at Curborough......

I'd forgotten the Lotus - and yet thinking back I must have seen it in action several times

Shocked he was running Speedway wings and not the high downforce road course set up.

It was a demo, but they timed his last run I think - any idea how quick he went Chris?

About 51 seconds I think, compared with Alan Goodwin's FTD of 45.63

As far as I know there has never been another Penske running in a 'proper hillclimb' in the UK.

Wasn't the Brain Cooper-Daimler part of Bernie Ecclestone's collection?

No, this one's residence in a Swedish museum for over 20 years gets a regular mention by the commentary team.
Perhaps BCE has the Cooper-Chrysler?
