This is worth a look - very entertaining. I think the guy is quite an actor. Is it possible that a 200mph Nascar champion could be scared in a V8 supercar? I suppose the passenger seat is always more scarey?

Strangest lap of Bathurst I have ever seen.

Jason Bright didn't scream and cry like that when I took him for a lap in 1998.

He was certainly hamming it up. But that's understandable, you're not going to attract viewers by saying things like: "What's wrong? Why are we going so slow? What? Is that it?"
And did he really mean to say geographical rather than geological? Topological is probably a better fit. Or was he intently studying the rock formations along the road?

A bit of a show, but I was in the jockey seat last year at Winton and you sit about a foot futher forward than the driver, quite close to the bars and screen.
Fantastic fun, but a bit like watching F1 you don't realize how fast they are until you see it live.

That clip seems to have continuity problems too...its a bit like the episode of McLeod where he rode his horse nth-sth over the Sydney harbour bridge...and then ended up in Manly or somesuch other geographical impossibility

Well, DW is something of a ham. I'm trying to think of a parallel Australian television personality. What's that woman's name on Home and Away?

That said, a hot lap will always be infinitely more terrifying from the passenger seat. It doesn't compare to driving at all. I typically refuse to do it. DW did say he was only expecting a recon lap, so he may have been bushwhacked to some extent, and he has been retired for a while now.

I think the takeway, beyond all the histrionics, is that Waltrip was genuinely impressed with the track and the series.

I have only driven around the Bathurst circuit slowly when it is used as a public road. But even then the drop down off the top of the Mountain through the Dipper etc. is frightening.
It is more akin to a house's steep driveway than a public road. You just don't get a true idea of just how steep it is from the telly. Just how they dive over Skyline at a 100mph or so defies belief.
I think I would have shrieked louder than DW.

DW is an entertainer now, and I'm sure there was some of that in the ride. Having said that, riding at speed as a passenger (at least for me) is no fun, you have no sense of track conditions as you drift, it's not a comfortable feeling at all.

I have to say, I'd love to see the V8 rules package replace the NASCAR package. Too much like spec racing.
