I have no idea how the course was laid out. However, the pictures below depict where I think the course would have started and finished. About 2.4km of narrow, steep, country lane...the bitumen was barely wide enough for two vehicles.

Start may have been around the intersection of Fountaindale Road and Mausdale Lane???

Didn't mean to imply the pics were of Fountaindale, just that the layout of the turns was very similar.
Never saw the drop off - at 6600rpm in 4th gear I did not intend to go there !
Fountaindale was .823 km long (900 yds).

added after the fact to try and complete the picture!

They didn't go over the railway line; the finish was a fair way short of the level crossing to provide adequate braking area as well as a marshalling area as the cars had to return to the start via Fountaindale Road.

This is what I remember;

I think that, in my earlier map dated a few years ago and posted in the link I supplied in the "Berrima" topic, I had the start a bit too far down the road.

As I recall, only part of Fountaindale Road was used, the then-sealed section up to some way short of the railway crossing; at a guess, the start was at about -34.600175,150.608842 and the finish was around -34.593176,150.610719.

The direct distance between those two points calculates as 0.795 km; the road is "flowing" so the track distance would not be a lot more.

The lower section of Fountaindale Road was gravel then; it was just farm country.

Today's sealed road and McMansions came later. The old level crossing was a simple country affair without boom gates; the present crossing is most elaborate indeed!

The only photo of Fountaindale that I can find is this 1972 one taken at/near the start;

A certain TNF-er who may be recognised by some. :)

It confirms my memory of the paddock area being on the eastern side of the road at the start.

I think that it was here;

The overhanging trees just after this point (and the often-damp climate in this area) would explain Paul Hamilton's "... memory of the slippery uphill start ..." in the "Berrima" topic; the long right-hander that he described can also be seen.

That would have to be RB Lear in the Cooper Peugeot.

For those who are wondering, I have fitted a 356 Porsche engine to the 'Cooper'.......although it is a push-rod, not 4-cam as it was in 1959, when Laurie Whitehead owned it.

The car was originally called the 'Cooper Porsche', therefore that's what I now call it.

I heard today that Fountaindale was preceded by a Hillclimb into Robertson on the main road.

Recalling....

The lady from tourist center said: They don't do the Hill Climb any more and remembering back it was actually held on Range Road at the Tourist Road end. Hope that this is of some help. Regards Heather Vickery.

That puts the site closer to Glenquarry on the way to Mittagong from Robertson.

So...to this report...
