Great season for Frijns!! :smoking:
There was a lot of pressure on this last race, and a do or die action was bound to happen.
Frijns won and that's it, he's the champion again third year in a row!!

And in two of those three his main rival has been taken out on the last weekend leaving him to win it, fine line between winning and coming 2nd.

Isn't there always a fine line in racing?? If it was easy we wouldn't be watching probably... ;)

At the other hand, a championship isn't won in one race but over a whole season. We see it a lot in these younger classes, that there are a lot of incidents en disputes. Most of them because of inexperience and youthful enthousiasm, especially in the final and deciding race of the season. Still pretty easy to spot a great driver like Frijns though, really a promising talent.

without disqualification from first race, Bianchi would have won it

Frijns, Bianchi and da Costa deserve a chance in F1 even I'm not been sure about how good the grid or they are.

Frijns has had 25 seconds added to his race time but that changes nothing with the championship. Not much else they could do to be honest.

Bianchi will likely turn round and say "they may as well have not penalised him at all, he was ahead in the points before the race, he knocked me out, so other than a DQ from the race weekend or the championship, any penalty is pointless".

Reduces the gap from 10 to 4 points. Looks slightly better for Bianchi. His odds for landing a seat for Force India for next year wasn't looking too good in the first place, and I doubt finishing 2nd will help him. I think they will go for Di Resta and Jaime and probably give Jules some more Friday drives.

Enjoyed RFR battle more, to be honest. Bianchi does not impress, unlike Vaino.

Btw is here a eurocup thread?

I most likely will be wrong, but I predict Bianchi or a driver currently on the grid will get the second Force India seat and Jaime will be test/third/reserve driver for them in 2013 leading to a race seat in 2014. Force India have a habit of promoting their reserve/third drivers.

Fortec might not be to impressed, it drops them from 2nd in the constructors to 3rd and promotes Arden to P2. Not sure what the financial ramifications that has but it must have some.

Assuming Force India is around in 2014.

Even if Bianchi does make it to F1, I don't think he will be there for long. Da Costa makes the rest of them look pretty ordinary.

Feel pretty bad for Bianchi. Frijns played a professional foul. But had been rooting for him since the start as he was so impressive.

Bianchi/Bird are already the 'old guard', bot have had ample opportunity to impress and they have never quite delivered. The exciting blokes around at the moment are: Calado, Nasr, Da Costa, Vainio, Sorresson. I would have had Korjus on that list at the begining of the year but he was been a bit 'meh'.

Cracking season, shame it ended the way it did.

Thats the biggest problem. da Costa made everyone look ordinary, but he looked no better than ordinary in his 3 years at GP3.

really? bad for him, since theres no chance of him winning. How many similar crashes did we see this year? how many did result in a DSQ from the weekend?

Not FR3.5, but during the Megané Trophy, the crazies just went mental.
'Old Navajo' (who races under a pseudonym?) tried to deliberately take out championship contender Bas Schothorst 3 times!
He's facing to be banned from FIA motor racing for live.

Congratulations to frijns! But i feel gutted for Bianchi, I have no doubt he would've won the championship as Magnussen would've got past Frijns in all likelihood. I hope it doesn't affect his chances of getting into F1 next year.

Bianchi is not the real deal, Frijns is. Apparently, he will be driving for a Sauber F1 contract during his test (just like Raikkonen did a decade ago)

Can't see it myself, Sauber are already paying The Hulk a wage and i'm sure Telemex must be offering a sizeable amount of cash for Esteban to get the seat. I really hope i'm wrong but i'd be (pleasantly) surprised if he does get it.

Interesting thing I realized today: this season, the Formula Renault 3.5 series was faster than GP2!
On average, on the tracks visited by both series, the pole position of the Formula Renault 3.5 races were 0.201 seconds faster than of GP2.

I noticed that too, I also believe it's MNM's personal blog.

Also it's not that surprising if you consider that the cars in FR 3.5 are able to access DRS throughout the whole of a qualifying session, which goes a long way to explaining the deficit in time between the two series especially in Spa.

Yeah, my bad there :stoned:
Averages out to 0.056 in favor of FR3.5 still.

May not seem much, but still impressive coming from what was initially ‘just another junior formula’.

I think in these circumstances the offending driver should also be penalised a race win deduction

Yeah nice improvement there, but as Kvothe said, I guess DRS helps a lot. You may compare fastest lap in race too, they still can use DRS but maybe not as much as in qualifications

Hm. So A. Felix da Costa outscores all three so-called title contenders in the year's wins column. Frijns can at least plead his inexperience, but I think this season may ultimately prove quite damaging to brands Bird and Bianchi. If it hasn't already.

I don't know the background of that, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks more like Felipe<3Lewis and Romain Maldonado.
He was not literally hunting down and full-speed crashing into one specific championship contender.

Crazy by the way, what I realized:
We have all these young talented hopefuls, yet all of them are already older than Sebastian Vettel when he won his first race!
