Sorry - strictly speaking a bit OT. Is there anywhere out there to watch DTM online or do you all rely on feeds from TV channels? In the UK is DTM still on Eurosport?

I'm thinking Rene Rast to BMW, if not Jorg Muller; maybe Nick Heidfeld.

How come they don't allow genuine privateers to run and buy cars of their own accord, to privately enter with their own sponsors?

So they will feature the Audi S5, BMW "M3" and Mercedes C-Coupe? Nice line-up. :)

What's this about a north american DTM series? I gather a place for Merc, BMW and Audi to race their old cars and promote their wares in conjunction with NASCAR. Those NASCAR folks are smart indeed.

These cars are cheap and popular in the US afaik... M3s can and do take sales away from Mustangs and Camaros in the US AFAIK, due to the relatively small difference in price, so I wonder exactly how happy Ford and Chevy can be to see DTM arranging for the NASCAR administration to run their sport* alongisde their GrandAm series.

* Which presumably will be a major promotional vehicle for Merc, BMW and Audi in the US, otherwise why bother?

Judging from that Mercedes need to fill the seats left by di Resta and Spengler - as only Green and Paffett look like serious title contenders compared to Audi who have Tomcyzk, Ekstrom, Scheider and Rockenfeller; that's not even taking into account BMW. Audi need to chosoe between Mortara, Jarvis and Molina, one will have to go which will be a difficult decision. BMW have Spengler, Priaulx and Farfus which is a great lineup - I expect them to be joined by Jorg and Dirk Muller and Rast, or Werner; Heidfeld being a longshot.

So, BMW back in DTM after 1994. They have got an impressive lineup with Priaulx, Farfus and now Spengler announced. They will race six cars in 2012. Who will the other drivers be?
Last weedend 28 international drivers competed at Surfers Paradise in Australian V8 Supercars. These are evil spectacular beasts with 600+HP, narrow tyres, limited aero on a very tight track surrounded by concrete walls. Farfus was spectacular, tidy, did not ding anything and brought the car back to the prime driver in excellent shape. Priaulx had an excellent drive with a car which had a very bad run but his efort was superb. However Farfus is the future, brave clean able to adapt. My vote is Farfus to stay, Priaulx to stay and Spengler to fight for his drive
So which teams and drivers do you think will be dropped by Audi?

Maybe team Phoenix, but they just won the championship with Tomczyk who really did serve the team name.

And which teams and drivers do you think will be dropped by Mercedes?

Spengler is already gone

Good thing for Spengler I guess.. Seems he was Mercedes ugly child which they kept at the back of the picture, hidden behind the fat cousin.

If he's not going to win the championship or get "courtesy" test drive in F1 anyway he might as well have a new challenge helping build out a team.

How many new and how many old cars? I could assume Merc and Audi have six new and two old cars, then from 2013 BMW would have the same as they don't have old cars yet.

There is no "old car" for Audi in 2012--they're moving from the 4 to the 5, so everyone will have a "new" car.

driverider, also, I'm confused by your post--if Audi is fielding eight drivers, why would they need to ditch any of the seven you mentioned? ;)

Well, they had Kolles' Futurecom TME team as privateers from 06 till 09 running two-year-old cars, but they were never really competitive.

Better BMW in my opinion. They are the loyal Heidfeld fans, who always supported Heidfeld. Why drive for Mercedes who signed Schumi for F1 instead? :well:

Is Audi running the A5 or S5? It's the S5 right, to have a two-door car like the rest?

To be fair Audi have made it deliberately confusing by name both a coupe and a 4 door sedan-coupe with the same name "A5"!

You are not right! Heidfeld hasn't so much fans inside BMW. And I have a reasonable source that say : Heidfeld go to MercedesDTM & also will have a job as testdriver for MGP F1!
 Heidfeld to Mercedes DTM!

Quite right too. I felt Audi treated him poorly by relegating him into an older car.

He had the last laugh though winning the championship.

Next season should be great with the 3 manufacturers.

yeah it seems Dr. Ullrich is trying to justify his desicion to demote Tomczyk now that he won the championship in an older car but now he'll be appreciated at the new DTM king squad(BMW). and yes im a little biased on that. :p

Quiet excited about this year. DTM since it has been Audi v's Merc has generally been a poor series with poor racing. Hopefully a 3rd manufacturer will help. The future looks good for the series, and race spec too.

BMW - Tomcyzk, Spengler, Priaulx, Farfus, Jorg Muller, Rast

I must say that is a quality lineup - if the final two happen.

They seem to be putting a fair bit of financial weight behind the project... puts some more light on Mini's comments about BMW being more reticent about the WRC project due to DTM...

There is no doubt they had to take drivers from other teams with experience of the series. But taking the champion and the 3rd place driver is a mighty effort, good luck to them.

Audi - Ekstrom, Scheider, Rockenfeller, Mortara, Jarvis, Molina, (I guess Albuquerque)

Until the cars can bang panels without half the bodywork falling off that will not be fixed IMO.
Even F1 car is less fragile than DTM car IMO.

So where are we up to with driver line-ups next year?

BMW - Confirmed: Spengler, Priaulx, Farfus. Rumoured: Tomczyk, Rast, Muller, Heidfeld (though not so much recently).

Audi - as above

Mercedes - Paffett, Schumacher, Green, Coulthard??? Who else?

Didn't Joey Hand test the BMW DTM car recently... is he another name to consider? Or will he just stick to BMW GT's....

BMW has a power line up for next year and given the new aero specs these cars won't be as fragile or aero dependent, downforce will be less next year.

Nick Heidfeld is a good shout, maybe Mika Hakkinen at a stretch. But Mercedes need to fill the voids left by di Resta and Spengler; maybe Bird, Turvey or Merhi. (or Senna)

I'd say right now...

Mercedes: Paffett, Green, Heidfeld, Schumacher, Coulthard, Wolff, (young driver above)

I was wondering about that, mainly because they were both Brits so I'd been keeping an eye on them. Though it shows how little I follow DTM that I assumed Katherine Legge was still Audi's girl.
