When the crashed remains of WPK6 were taken to the Irish scrapyard is it not possible that the scrapyard sold the rear of the chassis to someone who grafted on a VW front end, fitted a Falcon body and made something that eventually ended up in England and was restored by Ryan Hodges as a Halseylec?

Plenty of restorable cars have come out of scrapyards, so a sale to a scrapyard doesn't necessarily mean the thing ceased to exist.

I re-read the article about Ryan Hodges rebuilding it and thought how could he have done it without some kind of starting point - especially when you consider it was pre-interweb (& Ferret Fotographic) days...

It is equally possible that the Halselec was taken to the Moon by aliens, who have returned it as a gift for Mr. Ives.

I am sure Mr Morley has tongue in cheek but at least he puts his name to his posts, so I refer him to the photo in post 15 and ask him to look behind the (genuine) Halselec to Lola, the Citroen Light 15, AFB890, property of Bill Patterson Senr and kindly loaned to me at that time because the Halselec was my road car, remember?

The Halselec remains made two or three loads to Eastwoods scrapyard in the boot of Lola, which opened downwards so items could stick out the back. The light alloy bodywork was folded up like a blanket. There was NO 'rear of the chassis' for Eastwoods or anyone else to sell. The longest bits were the two springs, about 6ft long, there was no tube more than 3ft long, and all these had severe internal corrosion. A light blow with a hammer and they bent in two by hand, quite chastening when I realised how little had been holding things together.

As to the replica's origin, the instant I saw the Lost and Found picture in C&SC 10 years ago I concluded that the original car's constructor Ginger Devlin had built another, and why not for it was a great little car? The only problem arises when someone tries to present a copy as the original.

Why are some people still trying to suggest the impossible? Play it again ... the original Halselec was TOTALLY DESTROYED apart from the steering wheel and front panel. We are still waiting to hear from the new owner. If he has been sold a car which purports to be the original Halselec WPK6 then I and others will assist him in any action he may wish to take. M'learned friend tells me such action would be impossible to defend given the evidence of myself and others.

Mr. McRitchie’s letter in the latest Classic and Sports Car ends with the editor asking….”were there two cars?”
Only two…..no1 was WPK6…..no.2 was 7BPA.
Data available on these up to around 1960 is extensive…..many photos / race programmes / race reports / interviews with drivers and constructor etc. in period publications.
Obviously , the editor today of this magazine would not have the time to trawl through hundred’s of old copy , on the off chance he might come across something.
So here, for his benefit, is a quick reference of the articles/letters they have published in chronological order referring to this car :
April 1984….Doug Nye writes an feature on Halseylec no.2 (7bpa)….suggesting the first car went to Ireland and since it seemed to have vanished?.
May 1984….Mr. Farmer replies to this article by saying he deals with the registration transfer of WPK 6 from the Halseylec in 1975.
July 1984 …Ginger Devlin (the cars designer/constructor) writes in with his memories of the two cars.
December 2000….Michael Ware writes an article in lost and found… on Halseylec no.1 , then being rebuilt by Hodges.
January 2001……Mr. McRitchie writes letter re: the cars crash / demise etc.
March 2001…..Ginger Devlin replies to above letter….disagreeing somewhat with McRichie’s memories…and states that the car being restored by Hodges is the first car.
December 2011….Mr.Ives letter… re: cars hill-climb debut.
January 2012….George Rance letter… re: memories of Anstice-Brown etc.
March 2012…..Mr. McRitchie letter …. re: cars demise.

As you say mine wasn't meant to be the definitive answer - more a suggestion that such things have happened with other cars.
Your description of the cars demise is pretty conclusive!

Incidentally, if anyone wanted to query Ryan Hodges on his restoration I bought a DFV from him a couple of years ago and should still have an e-mail address for him...

My German infant level, but I think it means: I offer a Halseylec 1100 Coventry Climax Mk I built 1954 with FIA HTP. Car has been completely overhauled in past year with a new Climax engine. Car is race ready and can be used (sold?) anywhere. Pictures and info on request. Phone contact is a lady in Cologne. Price at today's conversion rate equates to £67,633.

Oddly enough the picture is of the Mk 2 Halselec 7BPA which was built in 1956. One would almost think someone was trying to muddy the waters

Did any of the Halse(y)lecs ever compete at the Mille Miglia in period ?
If not, how could that lady claim that participation there is possible ? Might have been in the old time until a few years ago, with some (additional) cash in your hand, but not today anymore, I am sure.

This picture comes to light:

#34 7 BPA from Goodwood, Whit 1957.

It helpfully says Halselec Climax on the nose (no 'y')?
