Hello all,

stumbled across this on youtube earlier, thought there might be people on this board interested in seeing it! Provides a lot of insight into the 1973 season.

Excellent insight into the very first formula one season I followed in Autosport & Motorsport.

Today's Elf & Safety would be apoplectic at Colin's antics at the finish line when his cars did well.

Splendid footage, thanks for the pointer!

Loved the scene when Colin went to a steward at Anderstorp, asking for "one more lap for Ronnie! He's Swedish, he must go!"

Nice insight in the relationship that Colin had with his drivers, especially Ronnie.
Although I can't quite shake the feeling that Mr. 'Cheeky Chappy' was very well aware of the cameras.

that would be the 'A' side of the Team Lotus 'hit' record of 1973; 'The Champions'. Follow this link to a video I have produced to go with the song. It will be featured in my 'Lotus 72 Story' dvd when it gets released sometime next year :
The film clips and still photographs com emainly from my own archive, but some were indeed supplied by the good people of TNF. Used with their full permission.

go here for info on the DVD ; www.lotus72dvd.com

I've just had a sneak preview of the first half of Gary's Lotus 72 video. Fascinating interviews with John Miles and the late Peter Warr...

This is one of my favourite films ever - really captures the atmosphere - anyone who hasn't seen it I urge you to watch it. Fascinating insight into the era. Are there any other films like this from this era? Also does anyone have any information on how this film came about - was it a genuine documentary or was it mainly done for sponsorship reasons and publicity?

I'll never forget the pitlane reactions after Cevert's shunt at Watkins Glen, Ronnie telling Peter Warr "I've never seen anything like it" Watching Emerson and Jackie heading to the paddock is just awful...

On a more light subject had to laugh at Colin Chapman being critical of the driver for bringing gravel onto the grid!

A gratuitous plug, but 'on topic'.

I recently offered my copy of 'the champions' 7" single on Ebay, but it was met with a singular lack of interest, so if anyone is desperate for a copy, drop me a message.

'Do you have any more information on this?'
Well, I have now edited a 27 minute version of the programme (there will be a much longer DVD of it, perhaps even two discs), but have met with complete apathy when trying to get the programme on air. I have conducted interviews so far with the late Peter Warr, John Miles, Emerson Fittipaldi, mechanic Jim Pickles, Team buyer Luke Watson. I have another couple lined up for the summer and then we'll be done.

So far I have offered the 27 min version to ESPN, Sky F1 tv, Eurosport and Motors TV. All, to a man, plead poverty and 'can't' afford to buy the programme from me. I'm only asking for between £2,000 and £4,000, so it's not likely to break their banks!! Methinks they actually want me to offer it to them for nothing, something I'm not going to do.
If you'd like to keep up with events, bookmark this website ; www.lotus72dvd.com
aside; I'm due to film an interview with a prominent FIA employee, ex-Team Lotus mehcanic this time tomorrow for the programme!

I had the same feeling when I was taking an idea to the TV people, it's their loss if they do not show it, put a 1 min edited highlight on youtube and watch the response, I bet when they see the number of hits your youtube clip receives they will be falling over each other to sign you up. Looking forward to seeing the finished film

Very entertaining.
Two observations:
Liked the way Chapman had to interpret Ronnies limited input to his handling problems.
Liked the way Emmo seemed genuinely pleased for Ronnie when he got the message Ronnie was in the lead.

I have watched the early version of Gary's 27 min edit of his Lotus 72 film, aimed at TV channels.

The quality in all respects is superb. picture, sound, archive clips, stills the editing and effects, this is broadcast quality to a BBC standard.
The interviews particually that of Peter Warr, are quite fascinating with information revealed I have never seen on film before.

Gary has spent at least 5 years on this project already. When finally assembled I imagine it will need a 2 disc set with a running time of 2-3 hrs, there is that much material from all sorts of people. Clearly it has been a labour of love I know Gary has already spent many hundreds of hours on it and travelled the country.
Not to be missed when the full version gets released, I am certain. It is a brilliant piece of work on a truly remarkable car and those involved with it.

after nearly 5 years of trying....................this morning we conducted an interview with Herbie Blash. Very interesting indeed, Herbie gave us some neat 'behind the scenes' info for the video.

Sadly it took me ages to figure out The Beatles connection. Initially I was stuck trying to figure out why Steve Jobs' logo looked wrong. :(

Rich. I'm 53. 'The Brabham Years' sound like a retirement project to me, judging by how long this 72 thing has taken so far! LOL!
