Hi Robin

Do you have any pics of my mate Stephen Harvey? He raced at Jehonville around this time on a vintage Norton and also on a TZ 350.

Stephen is the nephew of Jim Harvey, I know he looks in on the forum from time to time, where ista Stevie? :p

Many thanks

Sorry for the late reply Mick. I don't have any photos of Stephen that I know of. He's listed in the programme for 1999 but not for the following year. I'll have to dig out my programmes from 1995 and 96 and any photos I took then to really find out.

I always thought that Tony Rodger was a very stylish rider, he had that knack of always looking relaxed and never really looked like he was going very fast.

Is the other rider Malcolm Clark?

For sure ! For those unaware, after setting the classic race world alight in the last few years, Lea had a massive crash at the Ulster GP on, of all things, a Suzuki SV650, and really smacked himself about. Great news is that he's up and at 'em, and it sounds like he's well on the way to getting back on the track again, great relief. He rides and wins on all sorts, and after successful tours of NZ and Australia, has earned worldwide respect as one of the best : hats off, Lea, and here's to a speedy return.
Been meaning to mention, Gra, how much we appreciate your excellent set of pics from the CRMC series. And while I'm at it, I don't agree at all with those sad sacks grumbling about mufflers and the disappearance of 19" wheels etc diluting the impact of current classic racing. Sharpen up, people ! The bikes currently on the track may differ in philosophy and design intricacies from Ye Olden Days, but at least you still have the opportunity to get along and watch Manxes battle with G50s and Goldies on England's scratchy short circuits. Yes, the noise police and the greenies etc have all had their say, but you can still see bikes that fired you up 50 years ago going for it hammer and tongs, how many forms of motorsport can claim that ?
My advice is to get out from behind the keyboard, and get trackside for a couple of meetings next season. When the likes of Barry Sheene, Wayne Gardner, Ryan Farquhar, Cameron Donald, Jeremy McWilliams and plenty more have discovered the thrill of getting stuck into the classic bikes over the last few seasons, and mixing it up with the established guns, we're all winners. Bangers hard at it, just like Way Back When !
PS : Mufflers or not, they STILL sound great ! :drunk:

Nice pic of Lea in his normal winning pose, Graham

As an aside, I got to know Rob quite well on my occasional forays with the FRC especially after he bought some Lockheed brake bits for his Weslake from me at a ridiculous knock-down price!!

Over time I've had a few beers with Rob at Cadwell, Mallory and one time I was passing by Worksop and called him, I got shanghai-ed in the local railwaymens club and after a skinful, ended up sleeping on someone's front room rug!!

Rob was a lovely fella, always willing to help anyone in the paddock but once out on the track he was a demon, although totally fair with his riding.

RIP Big Rob, a fast and fair rider always and a super person. :(

Thanks for that Graham, another great pic of Rob

Many moons ago I did an FRC meeting at Darley Moor, Rob had a horrible looking get-off on the last lap and the club sec (I think it was Dave Brown) who had seen Rob's accident, was in the paddock bemoaning the loss of his mate. There was a big group of FRC riders there, I remember I was stood talking to Darren Cooper and Steve Huskisson who were fellow RD400 riders like myself when up strolls Rob, helmet in one hand, leathers unzipped down to his pubes and the biggest ice-cream that money can buy in the other!! 'What's this then?' he asks!

One of racings gentlemen, I believe that Rob started racing aged 16 and never missed a season until his untimely death at 60 or thereabouts, surely this must be a record?

We'll never see the likes of Rob on the British club scene again, that's for sure.

Yes Bob was a real star, we had a few dices together in the 80's, and many light hearted moments in later years, particularly about some of the huge highsides he managed when he had that RG, I always kidded him that should the UK ever form a national highsiding team, he would undoubtedly be captain

After seeing some of the things he walked away from on the track, when I heard of his death in a road accident I was totally shocked.
