Are there any drivers that you associate--for whatever reason--with one another?

For me, it's Ted Horn/Rex Mays, Jac Haudenschild/Doug Wolfgang, Buddy Baker/David Pearson and Wilbur Shaw/Mauri Rose, among others.

Surely it would be Richard Petty/David Pearson, though it's also Richard Petty/Bobby Allison.

Jigger Sirois/Masten Gregory?...just because of the glasses? :)

Ernie Triplett/Al Gordon, Frank Wearne/Johnny McDowell, Al Reinke/Babe Stapp, Duke Dinsmoor/Al Putnam, Bobby Ball/Jimmy Bryan, Roger McCluskey/Bill Cheesbourg, Mike Mosley/Bruce Walkup, Bob Hogle/Jimmy Oskie, Al Pombo/Marshall Sargent.

At the short track level, many, many of these, as often two drivers were the prime combatants.

As I said, "for whatever reason." And in my case, those reasons are varied and sometimes dimly understood. In the case of Sirois and Gregory, I think it has to do with both drivers--OW drivers from the same era--having rather sinuous, unusual and euphonic names.

Graham Hill / Jim Clark - they were Grand Prix racing in the early/mid 60s.....

Jackie Stewart / Jochen Rindt - as were they at the end of the 60s and in 1970

Campbell / Segrave - "anything you can do, I can do better...."

Little Al / Michael Andretti - "unto the next generation"

Alan Jones / Nelson Piquet - The first example of a running, open animosity between world champions?

Peter Brock / Alan Moffatt - Heroes & villains, but which was which dependede on whether you were shouting for 'Henry' or 'The General'

Mark Dismore/Pat Bedard

 Now, this one...this one FB :p

Dismore had a great lower formula career and was a Formula Atlantic champ.

Bedard was a decent racer at lower sedan level. Bedard is hardly the utter waste of space that some would make you believe, but he certainly doesn't belong in the same breath as Dismore.

Just because they crashed at Indy? Their crashes weren't even that similar.

The only dyads that occur to me are either on track rivals/peers or geographic in nature.

I guess that says I'm grounded by fact and totally unimaginitive

Tom Bigelow/Mike Mosely

Tom Bigelow/Tom Bagley

This was mainly because I always got them confused, but also because near where I lived at the time were a main road called Bagley Road and a car dealership called Bigelow Chevrolet.

I would have put Dickson with Gary Bettenhausen

Also I'd add

Tony Bettenhausen/Paul Russo
Ayrton Senna/Gerhard Berger

Yes, after all, it was the "Larry and Gary Show" in USAC Sprints. That was a name thrown around at the time.

Tom Bigelow/Mike Mosley kind of puzzles me as well.
