Today they are doing shakedown at Idiada in Spain.

HERE the article

McLaren also will make the shakedown on this spanish circuit how they did last year.

McLaren confirmed yesterday that they'd be testing the 27 at Idiada at the weekend, with Oliver Turvey at the wheel

OK so McLaren have gone with a relatively low nose and a snow plough. I wonder if we will see Williams go in the same direction, like they did with the FW31?

I hope it doesn't look as shiite as the Caterham. So hoping for a McLaren solution.

On second thoughts I don't actually care as long as it moves Williams up the grid

Spy shots? To know about the car today or next week, it will not make much differences is not it? Should Lotus change nose cone if they know about the 34 today?

If there's a chance of knowing sooner then yes please.

I'm sure Williams have gone for the bump nose, and if they think that's the faster configuration I won't care if it's ugly.

What makes you think they have gone that route?

As you say I don't really care either if the car is fast.

I care more for the back part of the car - with Renault engine team will finally be able to use the ultra small gearbox and utilize it's potential for ultra tight packaging. The only positive thing from last year is that the gearbox is working and they probably made upgrades so i'm hoping for one fast car this year. I even dare to say we will see a podium or two.

Are Williams persevering with the low line gearbox concept? The thing was problematic and overweight and the perceived benefits were never delivered, even if they placed some of the blame on Cosworth.

Absolutely. The Renault engine will enable a much cleaner and tighter rear end. This together with the banning of blown diffusers will see the team take a major step forward.

Remember Pastor qualified 7th at Silverstone when teams were banned from using the off-throttle blown diffuser concept.

Williams is still a bigger team than Sauber, Force India and Toro Rosso in terms of resources and staff and this advantage will now tell. 2011 was largely defined by the limitations of the Cosworth engine mapping for blowing and the position of the pipes.

:)

Indeed. Just because the gearbox was the really obvious distinctive feature of the 2011 car, everyone just assumes that the lack of competitiveness was down to that. Failing to develop the ebd was a much bigger issue.

As ever, high hopes for a Williams comeback in 2012.

And 2012 will be largely defined by the limitations of both their drivers ;).

A render if what the FW34 could look like. (of course this probably isn't based on anything factual and just pure guess work)

EDIT, after reading a translation of the original article its just a fantasy mock up, but still, looks alright.

Looking forward to the launch, don't care how pretty it looks as long as it relates to an improvement in constructor championship position!

Real pity there were no spy shots today though.

Yes please, can only hope they change it up this year, last year looked slow and boring. Sorry my bad, was slow and boring...

Things can only get better, and yes Williams could be on par with Lotus this year, definately have the capabilities

Wishing good luck to the snappers trying to get Williams pics at Idiada. The most recent track news is about its award-winning security team

The cousin of a friend's friend rented a small airplane to fly over the track and take some pictures, unfortunately the track had an advanced laser system set up in it's perimeter so it was impossible to catch a glimpse of the car. I guess we'll have to wait.

I'm kind of enjoying all the secrecy around what's going on with Williams... gives me the feeling they've got something to hide from the other teams...

My brother's friend sister's Cousin is a plumber in Spain and tried to get through sewage system underground to try and and get to the test pit area to take pics but they had force fields Guarded by cylons in the large drainage pipes and he couldn't get through,... It was impossible to catch a glimpse of the car, I guess we'll have to wait....

So what is it with this circuit, are they more concerned with how good their security is?

If so I guess more and more teams will run shake downs there in the future

Anyway not long now to wait to see the FW34.

I hope Williams abandon retro thing livery and go for progressive and look for present/future rather than the past. 2011 livery was horrible imo, and sorry that above rendering is awful to me. I know what counts is car itself, but still.

Their major or maybe biggest income is from hosting F1 teams' tests. Security is part of the service package and an important feature for the teams.

As I know this track was a favourite venue for aero-tests and shakedowns since quite a long time already. Also I don't recall we ever got spy-shots from Idiada F1 tests.

The reason those liveries became classics is because those cars won untold titles.

As you say it is the pace of the car that counts the most

And they won't put yellow for Randstad on it, as its brand colours are blue and white.

those liveries are classics on FW16 or FW14, not on FW33 or 34 is what I mean. Same for JPS Lotus, some people calling for White/Red livery for Macca, etc.

I was a bit shocked and disappointed by FW33 livery and critical of it because I had thought Williams was not kind of team that goes for retro. For williams to do that at that moment is deemed kind of last resort to attract more attention, or praying that glory days livery would boost performance and bring back competitiveness.

I know, I was agreeing with you. Maybe it's a sign that Frank isn't running the team on his own like in times gone (with Patrick Head obviously)

Now there are more people having a say in things...

I really hope Williams managed to find a solution for the nose regs that doesn't involve the stepped nose madness we have seen lately in the other teams. More like a rethink of the FW31 or FW30 noses.

Looking at the Caterham vs the other 2012 cars i think that the Renault engine allows for a quite tight back end, more than you can do with a Merc for ex...
Ferrari is hard to judge due to their Exhausts/hot air exits.
