Heck, didn't Barrichello had as much money as Senna, or close? Bring him back. I'd rather see him back for one year, than Bottas, seriously, especially if we lose Maldo.

The last time I heard, barrichello was able to convince a couple of more sponsors totaling to about (I think) 4-6 million.

If and that is a big if barrichello does come back to williams, there is a big possibility of bottas getting pissed off and resulting in him leaving to a rival team, which I am sure no williams fan (such as myself) would want. I and I'm sure most people here see bottas having more potential than (dare I say) hulkenberg. And barrichello, while I respect the guy a ton, he had his chances, won races and whatnot pretty much everything in f1 bar the WDC, but he has passed his prime and I see no reason for him to return to f1 with us.

Yes, it was for 5 years. But nodoby knows, maybe there are some points in the contract to allow PDVSA stop paying money or Venezuelan government wants to broke the contract somehow.

So, it looks as though Vijay Mallya is in a spot of bother

http://timesofindia....ow/16781715.cms.

I wonder if this may provide a bit of light on who has been whispering in Pastor's ear for next year? The PDVSA sponsorship would be good for the FI team if Vijay is embroiled in legal difficulties.

Or perhaps I've been watching the Bernie-esque machinations of F1 for too long...

Well, hopefully there are some penalties to be payed by PDVSA if they broke the contract, so it might not be that bad for williams.

As for pastor and FI, I doubt that he would set for a team with less potential. He know that Williams car has enabled him the win and a few podium chances, and he knows that would be hardly possible to do with FI. I think he would be looking only to move up, and those teams are Lotus, Mclaren, RedBull and Ferrari ATM. Sauber is almost the same as Williams (some races the car is great, others it is bad).

Looks like Bruno made a mistake on his last lap but even then he was borderline to make it through.

His chances of holding onto the drive get slimmer with every session.

Senna said he couldn't work in his set-up because the wing problem in FP3 so he tried a blind change and it made the car worse...

I don't think he was ever considered for '13. He'd have to have made a stunning impression for that to happen, performing way above expectations.

Surprised to NOT see Maldonado in Q3 today, 'cause I was sure they were going to be around Force India's pace here, and indeed they are eight on the grid.

Going to be tough to get points tomorrow...

Mark Gillan, Chief Operations Engineer: We had a pretty tough day today with both drivers struggling with the balance of the car and the ultimate pace of the car was not there today. We understand where the car is struggling and aim to address these issues as soon as possible. We believe our long run pace to be better and even from 15th and 18th we will be aiming to get some points.

Pastor Maldonado: We’ve found it hard to improve from our practice sessions this weekend. I drove a clean lap in Q2 and got everything I could out of the car, but we just didn't have the pace today. We’ll have to work very hard to be in a position to fight for points in tomorrow’s race from where we are, as it is difficult to overtake at this track.

Bruno Senna: I’m naturally disappointed with today. We had a few problems during practice with different elements of the car and this meant we couldn’t pull it all together for qualifying. We’ll just have to recover from this moment and try to have a good race tomorrow.

At least Bruno has two sets of each tyre. He may still be able to get points. Here's hoping anyway.

I wonder what is the reason that 3 worst qualifying performances (in terms of speed, as in Bahrain and in Canada Maldonado had clearly been capable of a better lap than he managed to achieve) of Williams this season have happened within the last 4 races.
I can think of several different reasons and I'm not sure which of them is the most likely:
- It's just a coincidence that Monza, Suzuka and Korea matched FW34 less than any other circuit. Singapore performance would fit this explanation.
- The team have already give up on 2012 and is focused more on 2013 (but they were still bringing new parts recently, weren't they?)
- They have gone with the wrong way of car development recently and they've lost themselves in this a bit.

Well MAL is pretty damning. Apart from the fat nose, I've not seen any new parts on the car recently. I think a lot of other teams have figured out the tyres where Williams had an advantage.

I suspect Williams has reached a point where resources are poured into next years car altogether. Maybe another front-wing upgrade is in the pipeline, but probably nothing major.
...Is my guess.

I don't think that Bottas has any chance of getting race seat for next year since he can't bring any money.

He would do what he was doing when he was alive : support his hephew and help him as much as he could...
That is what family usually does, even when things aren't going that well.

He's been a shoe-in for '13 since Williams signed him up I think. They obviously see his talent as so substantial that it outweighs not getting sponsors.

Not really guys. Bottas needs money for the seat, and according to james allen he does not have enough to get it.

Bruno would be a completely different driver if Ayrton had been alive.... The widsom and all that goes along with Ayrton, woulld pass on with Bruno.

He might not have as much as Senna but he does have some like Wihuri. He may be able to get more for a proper drive plus he is pretty much guaranteed to be better than Senna so makes sense. I think they may have learnt from the Hulk case

Maybe it wouldn't but Senna would have 15 or so years experience racing when he reached F1 instead of 6. Not saying he would have been a world beater but it would have helped

Bottas will get the second Williams seat.

I’m not so sure.

He will eventually, but he may have to start somewhere else first. Depends how their sponsor hunting goes.

OK so Ted on Sky said that there is a fundamental issue with the front wing that is causing the poor performance.

Sounds strange as he said Williams hope to solve the problem in the next race or TWO.

I don't know what's going on. The front wing issue certainly wasn't there from the beginning of the season, so it should be easy to solve by just bringing the previous configuration of the car. But it seems it isn't as simple since they are not sure to solve this before the next race. Strange and most likely it can finally ruin their chance for 7th in WCC.

Bruno could have beaten Pastor, but for some reason they were allowed to fight for the 14th position for 20 laps. Bruno seemed to be slightly faster than Pastor and started the last stint with 2secs down to Perez. Perez ended up 11th at the end attacking Hamilton for 10th, while Bruno left behind Pastor at 15th...Not that if he was let past he could have done miracles but regarding that Pastor's race and pace was clearly hopeless it might have been a more sensible decision to swap their positions 20 laps to go...

From the article on the Autosport page:

"Williams will retain Pastor Maldonado for 2013, while Valtteri Bottas' impressive performances for the team on Fridays this year - allied to the struggles that Bruno Senna has endured - makes it likely the Finn will be given a race chance.

Senna's best hopes of staying on the grid in 2013 could rest on a move to Caterham, where the future of both Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov are unclear"

I hope they can put something together as another season with Senna (as likeable as he is) just isn't imaginable

Don't think it will come to that though

I reckon so and given the strong financial performance of the group including Hybrid Power and the strong share price, I think the reliance on Bruno's funds has reduced.
