Joe Saward wrote about the possibility that Gerhard Berger could buy Addax GP2 team.
It would be a very prominente GP2 team owner, but who was the most exciting, the most interesting, the most colourful team owner for you? I mean GP2 and the series before, International F3000 and European F2?

We had some guys like Alexander Hesketh, Teddy Yip and so on in F1. But were there any similar in second league?

Perhaps some they were not in F1.

In terms of 1980s /early 90s entrants I'd chuck Willi Maurer and Giuseppe Cipriani into the mix as larger than life characters who seemed to enliven things somewhat.

In the case of the latter naming a race team after an Italo Calvino novel should be enough to set him apart from others in anyone's book.

How about Willi Kauhsen with his F2 team in 1977...?

Starting with the ex-works Elf 2Js, they became increasingly uncompetitive and I don't think they even saw the season out. I may be wrong on that count, but I'm pretty certain that team boss Willi had driven his Porsche 917/10 round the Nurburgring in the snow previously...

If HistoryFan is looking for owners who never had a car in F1, then Kauhsen is out, courtesy his shambolic 1979 effort.

Luciano Pavesi ?

Well, I have one of the Ralt Rt21 cars Pavesi ran in the 87 season. For a few years I have been looking for some info on the guy but have come up with very little.
A year or so ago, one of the TNF members who knows him tried to contact him about the car but he was not interested in anything about it.
I was left with the feeling he may have been a little pissed off over the F3000 scene.

I think he had a special relationship with Ralt as he ran Ralt cars in F3 and F3000.
He then joined Barone Rampante (I tried to contact Giuseppe Cipriani, but without success)
Were there never F1 plans by Luciano Pavesi?

There were certainly some "interesting" F3000 team owners mainly Italian ones!
