I'm looking for details about German driver Hans-Christian Jürgensen, who was active from the 1960s to the early 1990s. Back in the 1960s he raced a Fiat-Abarth (850/1000?) and took in his share of races in my native country of Denmark, where my dad used to see him perform. By 1968 the Fiat was superceded by a group 2 Porsche 911S, that was somewhat inferior to the Danish group 5 scene. A 914/6 and 934 followed through the 1970s and when I saw him racing in the 1980s and early 1990s, he was racing a group 4/B BMW M1, that also saw action on the international endurance scene.

His base and income - he was a gentleman racer - was in Flensburg in the then northern West Germany running a large scale trucking company. His biggest customer was the BRD army, but when "The Wall" collapsed his business went down to the point of bancrupcy? The situation colminated in either Jürgensen dying or commited suicide. That's what I know, but can anybody provide details of his birth date and location, and when he died. ..or how was he rated among his German rivals? - he did a decent job of the 1981 Deutsche Rennsport Trophäe.

He always performed well in rainy conditions.

Jesper

I hadn't heard of his sorry fate so I can't help you with hard facts.

Can you speak or write German? If so, an inquiry to the "Flensburger Tageblatt" (Kontakt) could be useful.

What I found on the WWW is an obituary for a certain Hans Chr. Jürgensen (1944 - 2010) (Link) but I have no idea if he is the one you are looking for.

A while ago I had a discussion with someone from Northern Germany about Jürgensen, since I saw him race quite a few times at Zandvoort. On many occasions he had state-of-the-art cars but his performances were (in my eyes) less than could be expected from such machinery. It gave me the impression that he was inexperienced (this was about 1975-1978). I was really surprised when I learned that he started racing much, much earlier than that.
