Hi all,

I have another thread running on an Indycar nostalgia forum requesting help in identifying the subjects of some old 1950s/60s negatives shot at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that I have in my possession. I'm getting some fantastic assistance there, but there are two almost identical photos that I'd like to run by the experts here. The reason is that they are photos of the Maserati 420M/59 on its failed Indianapolis attempt of 1959 so I was thinking that perhaps the Grand Prix experts here may be able to identify what are potentially Maserati personnel. The only notes attached to these particular negatives read "Maserati arriving May 9th 1959".

The best lead I've been given on the other forum is as follows:

"Eldorado was an Italian ice cream company that was publicity hungry, and agreed to foot the bill for the 420 to race at Monza in 1958, where it raced as the Maserati 420M/58. Maserati was officially out of racing by 1958, but engineers Alfieri, Bertocci, Colotti and Orsi felt they could produce a suitable car for the Monza 500. The driver was Stirling Moss, and he was able to run with Jimmy Bryan and Troy Ruttman through the first 2 heats of three. In the 3rd heat, the steering broke and Moss was out. He still finished 7th overall, and this encouraged the team to try Indianapolis in 1959. I believe that's Bertocci with the bald head and coveralls next to Tony Hulman. The other man might be Alfieri, Colotti, Orsi or even Sr. Zanetti, the CEO of Eldorado."

Can anyone add to this and ID the people on either side of Indianapolis Motor Speedway owner Tony Hulman? Thanks in advance. Here are the pics...

Is the other:
Piero Taruffi?

That is certainly Guerrino Bertocchi standing to the left of Tony Hulman (ie, on Tony's right hand side).

I remember Eldorado ice cream was introduced to Britain just after the end of sweet rationing - It was ice -cream heaven compared to Walls and Lyons Maid...

Many thanks to eveyone who took the time to contribute, and especially to Simon Davis and sramoa for the positive IDs. It's much appreciated.
