I do agree that 2013 is time to “piss or get off the pot” for Caterham F1. The past season was, for all parties, a massive disappointment. Perhaps they knew it was going to be, hence why they were the first to unveil their car knowing that it would get good exclusive exposure for their sponsors ahead of a season that was not going to live up to expectations.

The forthcoming season is important, however, I would prefer to wait to see how things stand at pre season testing before writing off their season.

In their defence I am unsure what the precedence is for a new team to score points in F1. Red Bull at least had the momentum of Jaguar and Stewart, before becoming a genuine midfield contender.

Perhaps 5 years was too ambitious. However, with the calibre of sponsorship that they have I would imagine they are expecting a return comparatively soon.

Anything new in Cyril's interview?

Cyril wants to keep a low profile. Team now has 300 people, quite a significant input of new employees. I think they had 220 before Leafield.

Wants to improve from 10th.

Move to Leafield affected 2012 progress. Aero worse than Marussia.

Team's future is for long term. ;)

Believes even without 10th place in WCC, Tony's financial might can cope. ........................... :well:

Got a bit of a soft spot for caterham, here's hoping they produce a cracker in the next few years and become solid competitors.

It is looking increasingly likely that Petrov will stay on, not least because he has the money available and because of what he did for the team in Brazil.

Funny, Heikki made the fastest time on their F1 sim game, while name of Petrov is nowhere to be found...

no,... I assume that Caterham Road car is sucking up money from formula one business so much so that the team is collecting money for the road car business to become feasible. This will stay for the coming three years and then, tata... new team is reborn... so for the moment there will be only pay driver available for Caterham, perhaps Petrov perhaps Guido... Heikki,... to become caterham road car test driver or to Caterham Le Mans?

Really??

This mob need to get sorted on the ground before they try to fly!
Tony's from the same continent as the King of Bling and sweeping statements like this are showing up the cracks more and more.

I think you can sum Caterhams problem as; poor standards of design engineering and the lack decision making at it's head. The first problem speaks for itself. Their 2012 car was a poor effort for the expenditure. The real problem is that no-one wants to make a decision about team direction for fear of upsetting Fernandez. Fernandez is too distracted by other projects to maintain a hands on roll. Granted he's appointed a leuitenant, but I get the impression is he's always looking over his shoulder for approval from Fernandez.

Hmmm, interesting, so that means the CT02 will be tough as a tank.... or the team will tank..

Anyway, good to see the sponsor wallet stepping outside Fernandes influence.

How big ? Sometimes big companies sponsor little money. Like Dell, for instance.

I hope its as big as you think.

Caterham to launch its 2013 Formula 1 just before first test

Using all the available time in the car? Sounds good.

The smart folk wait until they find a team that is really on the ropes and then pick it up for next to nothing.

The silly people pay $100 million or more.

 ;) Tony.

I have been told by reliable source, Petrov was offered contract with 0,5 mil. euro salary, and Caterham was ready to announce him before Christmas, but Vitaly suddenly refused offer, he wants much bigger salary, so it is not sure for him anymore and that's why it is still not decided....

That fits well with the rumour that they asked Heiki for more sponsorship money, I guess Pic will be doing the first laps alone.

Especially being 0.5 Million Euros! How much did Senna and Petrov get last season anyways?

If it is true, then perhaps Caterham may have other driver in mind.

I think its more of letting both parties gracefully "go down the stage", so as it would not look bad for either party.

Vitaly was driving almost for free for 3 years, he is tired of it. He spend a lot for renting house in England etc...So either he will get paid a good salary, or he will quit F1 forever....

500,000 should be more than enough money to pay your rent. That's not "driving for free". Unless it's rubles, of course. And where would he race to earn more than that?

14. Vitaly Petrov Caterham F1 Team €500,000
21. Bruno Senna Williams €250,000
24. Charles Pic Marussia €150,000

Got that from crash.net

It was also interesting to see that Perez is on the same as Petrov and Di Resta is on 200,000 euros a year

Yeah it actually looks like it when you look at the sidepods and air intake. But with 2012 spec nose.

The lack of driver confirmation at Caterham and Force India is beyond rediculous
Are we expecting some sort of shoot out or something
Perhaps Bernie pays teams money the longer they spin it out

2nd driver will be known by Tuesday - Kosachenko
R-Sport article on the subject, "heightening expectations [Petrov] will get the seat." not that it appears to be very un-subjective, or Kosachenko's statement particularly decisive. But we'll see I guess.

The Lotus team explanation nailed the unfortunate reality - god-awfully ugly step-noses are the most effective solution under the current regulations - unless you're working for a team that begins with the letter "M" - and while "modesty panels" were agreed to, in theory, to improve the aesthetic appeal of the cars, introducing them has obviously made Lotus and Caterham - so far it seems - realise that it actually sacrifices lightness and aerodynamics, which obviously matters much more to them than the car being nice to look at.

“I believe that before the start of the testing season, the team will announce the second driver,” Oksana Kosachenko said. “During the first day of the testing, maybe even before.”

Hasn't the team already said that?

Joe Saward seems to think he knows what's going to happen:)

It's one thing if Heikki and Vitaly talked themselves out of a drive, as has been suggested (all-but confirmed for Heikki, unfortunately), but I find this decision rather uninspiring and (personally) rather disappointing. :well:

But what do I know...

Yeah, there was some mysterious statement from Caterham that Heikki's managers used too hard tactics or something like that, go and tell

Petrov's deal seemed to be a matter of fact so I'm surprised that he is also out :|

Edit: Marussia, not Caterham, sorry for the mistake.

Heh. My "Back off a bit when you passed the Marussia in Brazil and threaten to let it repass unless you get the signed contract for next year first" plan would have worked better ;)
