Kathy Weida, Dan's Girl Friday tells me that Dan and Evi's visit is to the Revival not the F.o.S.

They will stay at Goodwood House but Kathy is coming too and needs a hotel, hopefully fairly nearby. Can anyone suggest something that I can pass on to Kathy.

I have a friend who is travelling from Canada to the Revival this year. He is an ex RCAF fighter pilot (Mustangs and Sabres) and also raced cars for quite a while. Can anyone suggest accommodation options for he and his wife? They are not young so no tents please!

Also, is there somebody he should contact in the British historic aircraft fraternity so that he can get closer to the aircraft at Goodwood? This is my idea, not his.

I travel down and back from Somerset each day so don't know anything about local accommodation. The general admission ticket gets you into the area inside the track where the static aircraft display/concours is located. There you can stand within touching distance of a delightfully varied assembly of aircraft. Aim for the Spitfire cafe and you can look over the fence at the Spitfires, Hurricanes and Mustangs as they taxi in after their flights and come to rest only a few yards away.

David, the hotels nearby sell out very quickly, people book almost a year in advance in some cases. You can always hope for a cancellation nearby I suppose. Hotels further away still have vacancies, and charge substantially less. I see from the internet that the place I am staying (the Travelodge at Alton Four Marks) still has vacancies for the Friday-Sunday nights at about £56 per night for a double room (room only). Its about a 40 minute drive from Goodwood if you set off early enough. It's best to do that and have breakfast at the circuit.

David, also try Worthing - anyway best to go for the East side of Chichester as the Chichester Ring Road can be very slow from/to West of Chichester

There are plenty of B&Bs available 30-40 miles from Goodwood. I always stay with a delightful couple in their 14th century house near Horsham, and it's so much more pleasant than a soulless hotel. And all for 35quid a night. At crack of dawn it's a 40 minute drive to Goodwood via Petworth and down from the race course, and some nice pubs for supper on the return journey. PM me if you want any details.

Is there bus service between Chichester and Goodwood circuit? My wife is thinking of making one or two trips into town during the weekend and it will not be practical for her to drive. If someone could direct me to a bus schedule and a lisitng of stops that would really be appreciated.

Thank you.

I believe there was when we were there for the Festival of Speed in 2003. I don't have the link to the schedule, etc. though.

In previous years there has been a couple of period busses running to and from town, leaving from next to the auction tent oposite the main entrance.

According to the web information on Chichester buses there are services to Goodwood, Lavant and Halnaker, but it would be worth enquiring whether they will be running during the Revival and the FoS

They run special shuttles from the station which are to the FoS or Revival in the morning and back in the afternoon but I don't think that is what Jack-the-Lad is looking for

Jack-the-Lad, I have found the Stagecoach buses website shows two regular services going near Goodwood - the 55 with a stop at Halnaker and the 60 that with a stop at Lavant. To find how close they are you need to go to a map site like Bing Maps or Streetmaps - I'm afraid I can't get the detailed map links to work

I suggest you e-mail Stagecoach and ask them directly. The reason I'm saying this is that when the Festival or Revival are on the normal bus services may well be diverted or disrupted

Edit: Link corrected

I agree with you view IF the shuttles run only morning and afternoon. I thought they ran all day...

According to their timetable, shuttles run from Chichester Station to the FoS every half hour from 07.15 to 12.15 and from the FoS to Chichester Station from 14.30 to 19.30. This suggests they make a return run empty, which seems unlikely but it's what the timetable says. Hence my suggestion to Jack-the-Lad to contact Stagecoach and ask.

Does anyone know what day the "Silver Arrows" will be running? It's a busy time at work and I can only make one day. I surely don't want to miss them.

Maseratis from the Anthony Hartley Collection scheduled to be sold by Bonhams:
http://api.viglink.c..._13449625426531
I read elsewhere that at least 25 Maseratis of varying types and periods are scheduled to be racing, while 13 Ferrari GTOs celebrate their 50th anniversary.

Barry,

I had a similar question, with helpful responses upthread. After six Revivals my wife and her friends might like to leave the track and go into Chichester for a few hours, and public transport would be their only real option.

Duncan, if you have more info, please PM. Thanks for the link to Stagecoach. I have printed the schedule. Does anyone know where the pickup points are at Goodwood?

Thanks, all.

Jack.

I can't recall if the bus into town was £1 or free, but either way, it was very reasonable!

Itfelt a bit like a trip to school though, being on an 'old fashioned' bus again!

No, but Goodwood have released the riders/drivers attending;

Thankfully, as this was the reason I gave the FoS a miss this year - Dan Gurney is there!

As well as Bob Bondurant, Danny Sullivan, Derek Daly, Sir JYS, Tony Brooks, Robs Lamplough, Derek Hill and the "normal historic guys" which is a rather unfari way of describing the colossal talents that are Moss, Oliver, Redman, Merzario et al.
