So that's why Plato left.

Maybe. Or maybe the sponsorship (Silverline) dried up? It was that sponsorship which I think Jason may have sourced, that persuaded Chevrolet/RML, at rather short notice (IIRC) to enter the BTCC. Either way, Jason obviously knew the withdrawal was coming. I wonder if anyone else will acquire and run the cars privately?

So, noone has picked up that former LMS, A1GP-winner, and audi-factory driver Alexandre Premat have joined Garry Rogers Motorsport for the 2012 V8 Supercar season!

If Tech-Speed could do it last year, I'm sure they or someone else can do the same this year. An undeveloped, S2000, NA Chevy Cruze might not be the most competitive option for a privateer in 2012, however.

This is what I thought when I read it earlier.
The announcements of Plato signing for MG and Chevrolet/RML departing are to close together for them not to be connected.

There's no point in Chevy being in it without an NGTC car and who's got the budget to build that? Plato said he needed to raise 100k plus just to get it started. Obviously MG turned out to be the better bet.

Can't see anyone wanting to run the Chevy's in the trim they're in at the moment. They're only any use from pole and I can't see a privateer putting one on pole.

Thommo has rejoined Lada's "totally new structure" for two WTCC rounds. Ford is obviously also going to compete but what about Volvo? There is a big silence since Macau.

Nissan to join V8 Supercars from 2013

http://www.autosport...rt.php/id/97423

Great news! Finally another manufacturer to run from 2013. It'll be nothing like the last years of GrpA though unfortunately, but it's certainly a step in the right direction for V8SC.

Anyone know what silhouette they will use, and if they will develop their own 5L V8 or use the CotF one?

Have to be the Maxima I would've thought.

EDIT: The Age is reporting that the most likely model to be used is the Altima which will be replacing the Maxima next year...

But sad news is that there is no Volvo in WTCC in 2012 and god knows for how long.
Volvo Motorsport boss Derek Crabb: "We will not be stepping up and entering an official team in WTCC in 2012. We are more than happy with the series as a whole. However, during the latter part of last year and based on strong push from our markets, we decided to shift our attention in Motorsport to the larger platform and the S60. This is a car we do not have developed in the S2000 regulation used in the WTCC. So in short, a very good championship, but we don't have a car for it in 2012."

It's a thing of great beauty. Is it an actual Subaru I might be able to buy one day, or is it like the Honda car used in GT500?

RADICAL PERFORMANCE ENGINES APPOINTED AS TC 2000 ENGINE SUPPLIER
The new Peugeot 408 with the V8 engine of Radical Racing Perfomances

Posted Image

Posted Image

Radical Performance Engines, the world’s foremost constructor of small-capacity racing engines, has been selected by TC2000, Latin America’s most advanced touring car series, as official engine supplier from 2012.
Radical Performance Engines will supply 42 units of its 2.7-litre TCX V8, the front-wheel-drive variant of RPE’s popular RPX engine. These will be mated to the championship’s Xtrac control gearbox, and fitted to all cars in the silhouette touring car series. The TCX will be used from the beginning of the 2012 season for at least three years.

TC2000 is Latin America’s most advanced touring car series, and is contested across 12 rounds in Argentina, including the Santa Fe street circuit, and Potrero de los Funes, a 3.8-mile circuit encircling Lake Potrero de los Funes. The series regularly attracts up to 30 cars per event, with representation from a range of marques, including Ford, Honda, Toyota, Fiat, Chevrolet, Peugeot, Renault and Volkswagen.

The RPE TCX engine develops 430bhp and up to 260lb/ft of torque, the 72° V8 cylinder, 32-valve quad-cam design incorporating racing-technology cylinder heads, mounted to a dedicated dry-sump crankcase. A flat-plane steel billet crankshaft transmits power to the gearbox, while a gear drive rotates the Formula One specification scavenge pumps, twin oil supply pumps and the coolant pump. RPE has constructed over 230 RP V8s since the engine’s launch in 2005, primarily for use in Radical’s SR8 racing cars, but also for applications as varied as autograss, hillclimbing, off-road and even jetski racing.

"RPE is proud to forge a new relationship with TC2000, bringing the performance, sound and reliability of the RP V8 engine to a new audience," said RPE director Ted Hurrell. "At only 88kg, the TCX V8 is one of the lightest and most cost-effective racing V8s on the market, and we look forward to supporting TC2000, at the same time reinforcing the RPE brand in Latin America."

That is awesome

In the paper here today they are saying that Jason Whincup is weighing up an offer to drive in an overseas series, or re-sign with Triple8 in the V8Supercars. Any guess on which series that might be?

SuperGT with Nissan? And then work on something in V8's with them (expanding from the Kelly operation?)...

I can see Whincup moving to NASCAR. Ambrose has proven that the move can be pretty successful. I think Whincup is a much bigger talent than Ambrose, and given the right equipment (it took Ambrose 3-4 years before that happened), a consistent race winning driver could be possible.

DTM or BTCC (doubt that though).. NASCAR is an interesting route.

Hmmm... tbh I would be surprised if he went to NASCAR. SuperGT with Nissan could be an option, until the Nissan entry comes online in the V8's. IIRC I remember hearing Whincup talking about Le Mans I think, and saying how he'd like to do that at some point. Alex Premat has just signed for the V8's, and he raced DTM/Le Mans with Audi - so to draw a long bow perhaps DTM with a view to Le Mans/WEC in future?

I'd love to see someone like Whincup have a go at the BTCC, but I doubt it will happen. DTM is a more likely route given he will be looking to be paid rather than funding his own ride I imagine.

v8s has the marketing ability with austin in its calendar, i'd suggest a v8s/NASCAR road course cameo.

i doubt he'd move to the btcc even with triple 8 connections, so DTM is probably the next best bet.

krap: lowndes isn't even a consideration for audi's Le Mans effort so I don't think Whincup stands a chance either.

It's funny but I don't see Whincup in NASCAR, but then with Ambrose not doing too bad perhaps someone has made him an offer.

Agree that I doubt he'd do the BTCC - perhaps if he was around in it's heyday but not atm - DTM would surely be more attractive to him.

I wasn't thinking Audi in particular, just that Premat has come to V8's from DTM/Le Mans and that quite a few of the DTM drivers do Le Mans as well. So perhaps that a V8 driver going to DTM and potentially also doing Le Mans isn't too far fetched?

I watched the first 10 minutes of the race, I closed it after they switched to a view of some bloke in the pitlane right when something interesting was happening at the front. In fairness, at least the commentators also made note of how pathetic it was to do that.

I don't know why race directors, from F1 to Le Mans to WTCC, are so poor. Nobody has ever given a shit about the pitlane reactions, apart from maybe Nicole Scherzinger when she's wearing a summer dress.

Nice race, class act by Müller! Had high hopes for Micheliz but im sure he will win a couple of races this year! Coronel also great performance to keep up with the Chevvys.

MacDowall looking strong for the future and im also hoping Rydell and Chevvy team Scandinavia comes back for more WTCC weekends this year.

A little bit sad with the bird though..

Honda’s ambition is to join the WTCC as early as this season, with a string of “inaugural rounds”. Discussions are currently being held with the FIA, but these rounds would include Japan (on 21 October at Suzuka), China and Macau. Honda will then enter a two-car team, managed by J.A.S. Motorsport, in the full 2013 championship season.

LADA Sport confirmed to have signed James Thompson for driving the new LADA Granta Sport in the two outings they will to do in 2012 WTCC, at Budapest’s Hungaroring and Estoril in Portugal.

For those who missed the WTCC Race 1 in Valencia, Nash pulled a brave Petrov. Also, racers seem to be adopting Nascar type bumping.

But the Chevy is still too far away.
