As a former aviation person, my nostalgia for aeroplanes is for them as they were, not as some computer graphics whizz would like them to be.

What's the point of this "artwork" anyway, much less why is it "nostalgia" on a motorcar forum?

Totally agree!

Does everything have to have a point?
Quite. Nothing wrong with a bit of fun and fantasy now and again. As a collector and occasional builder of old warbirds as racing aitrcraft, I find these quite inspiring.
Probably better in the collectables bit though.

I can't see the point in painting a WWII aircraft in Gulf colours! I would suggest a move to collectables as soon as possible would be the cool and cute thing to do!

'Artwork and drawings' might be the best thread, but it's not for me to say, however, there is computer-generated stuff on there...I would suggest a move to collectables as soon as possible would be the cool and cute thing to do!

I did see a D-Type (what else would I notice?) in Yardley livery around the time that Yardley were sponsoring BRM or McLaren. This has made me wonder, and it really is going to sound like sacrilege, but has anyone 'mocked up' pictures of 1950s/60s F1 cars in sponsors' livery? For example, a Lotus 25 in Gold Leaf or JPS; or a McLaren M7 in Marlboro, or a Brabham BT19 in Martini...
Back to aircraft, does anybody have pictures of Mustangs or other WW2 warbirds in modern [air] racing colours?

Just google for "Reno racer" images, there's plenty on the net.Back to aircraft, does anybody have pictures of Mustangs or other WW2 warbirds in modern [air] racing colours?
Would post a few myself but don't want to step on anybody's toes copyright-wise.

I think it's great work and an interesting exercise in design. "Why Not?" springs to mind.

Part 345: Messerschmitt Bf-109 F2 in the BMW/Petronas livery.
..
I don't think this one is a good idea...

Less attractive no doubt but an interesting comparison.
Equally how would the GP cars of the 21st century look in the single or simple national colours from the 50s up to '67

You mean something like this? Now all you have to do is the reverse: F1 cars in WW2 airforce colours . . . or airline livery.

Spare us from that PLEASE!!!!!!.Very clever work, makes you wonder how racing cars from the 30s 50s and 60s would have looked in liveries of the modern era ?
Less attractive no doubt but an interesting comparison.

Exactly. I like the JPS Spitfire, although I think it would look better with the JPS logo on both wings. For my part, I like them, as art they have done exactly what art is supposed to do, generate discussion.
Admittedly not a warbird, but Chunky did have his Cessna painted in JPS colours too: note the pesonalised reigistration!

You can also fnd pictures of the Team Lotus helicopter in both JPS and Essex Petroleum liveries at the pprune forum.

well the bf109 ran with a merc engine so you're right there, the sauber petronas livery could go on the bmw powered fw190 though...

I found the thread title to be very accurate too, so if this is not your 'thing', why did you open it?
What a boring life it would be to stay strictly with the conventional, with no sense of fantasy.
What would Chunky think?

The thread title is accurate only because it was changed after the first round of complaints. It had a very vague title that didn't really give any explanation of the content. A lot of people only ventured inside because they didn't have a clue what was in the thread.I think there has been enough positive comment on this thread to indicate it is not irrelevant.

But... what's really to complain about? If we don't like it or anything else around here, we're all just a keystroke away from somewhere else. The thread title is accurate only because it was changed after the first round of complaints. The thread title never changed... Either way, Big Whoop. We should at least make new posters feel welcome.

No, but I don't think the title changed since the OP. You might note my "either way" comment. Are you calling me a liar?
My point was to not barrage new posters with crap, which you justified. End of story.
Happy Holidays.

You might note that my reference to the thread title was in response to another post that suggested that the complaints about the content were at odds with the thread title. (hinting that by looking at the title it was obvious what was in the tread)No, but I don't think the title changed since the OP. You might note my "either way" comment.

I was just pointing out that the title had been changed by a moderator after the first round of complaints.
As we say in Australia, Merry Christmas ****.

The internet has a lot on it which is hard to find, without gratuitously "cataloging" computer art as motoring nostalgia. As for being kind to new posters, if they actually ask for help (post no 6) why not give it to them and move this thread to somwhere in which it would be apposite?
Rant over - and I only revisited this thread because I saw that Michael had posted on it and wondered why.
