It looks very different from the c30 from what I can see( and thats not much).
Indeed, the C30 was almost entirely white, but the new chassis appears to be black. Good to see a radical approach from Sauber.

Maybe a darker shade of white?C31 has passed all crash tests, will be fired up next week. Also it will have a stepped nose like the Crocoham. Peter Sauber calls the new livery "different" as in darker compared to 2011, though it will still have white as a base colour with some red in it.

The opening exchanges in this thread made me laugh too. Why is it always the Sauber thread that attracts bad jokes

What is actually on show at a fire up? Can all those people see the new car or not?

Good to see that the non-Sauber bits of the new Sauber work Hopefully the rest of the car will be an improvement from last year.

what are all these people doing there ? they are not sauber employees , are they ?
They are Sauber employees. Sauber considers the first engine fire-up to be a key milestone in the car build and the employees are inveted to watch.

Elsewhere there have been whispers that Sauber is short on its 2012 budget and is hoping that its Mexican backers – basically the Slim Family – will be able to come up with more cash for the future.

I don't see it happening. The Slim Family is extremely cheap. If they paid X for exposure, they won't pay more... only way I see is
a) they decide they want more space on the car, and if that's the case you can expect them to negotiate the price aggressively.
b) they want a race seat for Gutiérrez. Expect them to negotiate tough though, it won't be Sergio's seat times two... more like 1.5 or something.
I used to sell software to their companies and they are TOUGH...

Or maybe he's after the monies and gone to aerospace?
He's proven his worth for a few teams, the guy was pretty sought after last year from what I heard from several people..

Mercedes?!Probably Mercedes, they still have room to squeeze a few more people in the garage.
Man oh man, if he goes to Mercedes then they may as well just replace their entire staff with technical directors!

Gotta catch 'em all.Mercedes?!

But isn't this a pretty bad time to leave, days before the new car hits the track? Also i doubt there's many potential TDs out there at this time of the year. And i don't know if a return of Rampf is realistic.
