Gentlemen,

I am submitting to your attention this photograph, that Mr Don Feeley took back in 1968, at Siverstone paddock on the weekend of the BRDC International Trophy race meeting.

On the background you can spot the transporter of Peter Brewer who owned 2 Aston Martin DBR4 grand prix cars, one of which has just been unloaded for the vintage race.

But obviously the attention is on the car on the front, that we do not identify.

Any Xmas inspiration?

Un abrazo to you all,

That's the Jock Horsfall Spa 2 litre Aston Martin, EML 129, then owned and raced by John Freeman - later his son David also raced the car as did Sarah Freeman (daughter?). I last noticed them in 1991 it seems but I think it's still in Freeman hands.
An apprentice contemporary of mine at de Havilland, Peter Martin, knew the Freemans well and managed to get a drive in EML:

This is the Aston Martin 2 litre Speed Model, originally built I think for Richard Seaman to race in the 1936 TT.

That is a different car, Steve, reg. no. FGY 409 which was built, as you say , for the 1936 TT from which it retired. Still being raced and now known as 'Red Dragon'.
EML 129 was a works demonstrator 2/4 seater and its first race is recorded in the AMOC register as Crystal Palace 1938. Converted to sports spec. for the 1949 Spa 24 hours where St John Horsfall finished 4th.
Acquired by the Freeman family in about 1955, and, as Allan Lupton says, much raced by father John and son David to an incredible number of race wins and still, as far as I know, with David.

Allan might be interested to know that the AMOC register records Peter Martin scoring 2nd place in a handicap race at VSCC Silverstone 1969.

The car has been raced in recent years by David Freeman, usually co-driven by Russell Busst. They also share the driving of Russell's Chevron B31 in the CER series.

So would the Lotus Elan No. 3 be Leo Cloude?

Merry Christmas to all in the forum and thanks to Felix for bringing this up here. I took pictures at the BRDC Trophy meeting in April 1968 while I was stationed in England with the USAF, but a combination of subsequent travel and the passage of time time has left the slides in very poor shape, some becoming almost totally blank. I'm trying to restore them in Photoshop and ID the cars, but losing my copy of the program has made that difficult. The formula one cars are easy to deal with, but the other cars have been very tough. Thanks to Vince H., it looks like I have exactly what I needed.

Here's one that I cleaned up

Paul Hawkins in the #32 ex Alan Mann Racing lightweight GT40 chassis AMR/2 leads David Prophet in the #31 GT40 chassis 1002 during the sports car race at the 1968 BRDC International Trophy race meeting at Silverstone. Hawkins finished 3rd, Prophet DNFed.

Thanks again for the help and if anyone has further info or photos from this event, I'd love to see them.

Don
