My son bought a Lancia Fulvia 1600 HF (APY506K) and in trying to trace the history we find it was entered by Dennis Pelling in the 1973 Mintex Dales Rally (Teamdan website). I would like to trace as much about the car as possible and would ask how I can find entry/result tables and category lists for 1972/3 (the car was possibly prepared by Riccardo Emiliano Garages of Lincoln) Motoring News/BTRDA Championships. The Dales was the latter championship and forest stages if I recall correctly.

Any help with leads much appreciated.

Memory Lanes is a good reference, covering the years 1970-1973 inclusive, and I believe the latest reprint has entry lists as well as results. Book written by Peter Robinson and many photos supplied by TNF member Ted Walker ( ferret ).

Book written by Peter Robinson ...

If you have any difficulty getting hold of the book, Peter has posted here in the past (as 'cote d'azur'), so could probably be reached with a Personal Message:

I believe the main additional element of the revised edition ("Memory Lanes Revisited"?) is more entry lists. (It also changes the cover photo to night - a rather fundamental requirement given the subject!)
The 73 Mintex Dales entry list on the site mentioned was I think mine. It wasn't an MN round by then and was a purely stage event, a round of the RAC Championship.
I don't think Peter Robinson has found every MN entry list for that period and some may be lost entirely now.
I'll check the Welsh and Scottish (and RAC) lists but I don't recall a UK reg Fulvia. Was it one of the Jolly Club UK cars imported in 1969 by Oliver Speight? (that ran on Italian plates originally).

I have just looked at a photo of a Fulvia from the book, Italian registered and crewed by George Hill/Keth Wood. Of course, the Mintex went to a totally stage format, was it once known as the Seven Dales?

According to the results of the 73 Mintex Dales, Dennis Pelling actually started in an Escort, co-driven by Tony Raylor (and retired after completing Stage 15 Boltby, so before or on Stage 16 Kilburn).
73 was the first year it was solely a stage event. The meat in the middle was forest but the bread at either end was disused airfields, including the Mintex test track at Sherburn in Elmet. I also recall stages on army land near Catterick (where I stripped first and reverse, making the odd forest junction overshoot later on fairly interesting...).
The RAC Championship (the DeLacy MC event was not MN or BTRDA by then) had finally outlawed competitive road sections by 73. Prior to that it was the Seven Dales and later was upgraded from National to International, dropping the Dales bit to become the Mintex lnternational.
There was a Fulvia 1600HF on the 73 Scottish - Alistair Peters - but only the Mintex and the Welsh used to list reg nos in the entry lists.

Gentleman

Many thanks for taking the time to help. It is much apprecaited.

I think possibly, along the lines that RS2000 states that Dennis Pelling used an Escort on the '73 Mintex Dales, thant the Fulvia was used to obtain an entry before the list closed. It did strike me as strange that somebody would campaign a car that was by then 4-6 years past its best against competetive & far more available Escorts.

The Jolly Club possibility is interesting but this car was 1st registered in 1972 which would mean it moved on Italian plates for some 3-4 years. Possible but the chassis number shows it to be a later car (about 3/4 through the production run) & that it was produced in RHD from the factory. It will be interesting to see Jolly Club pictures.

Another doubt, although this is the 2nd complete rebuild, is that the car is standard (no ally bonnet, doors or boot) or any other vestiges of competition although it could have been returned to standard and the bits sold seperately. Unlikely I would have thought.

Thanks again for all the responses & I will find myself a Memory Lane Revisited. Whatever, it's a lovely looking little car!

thank you and regards

Tony Raylor is very much around and still involved in the classic scene. I will send him the link to this thread.

I've now posted a review on the book thread.
I only got the book in the post about 1300 hours today. I've clearly been doing a lot of chores round the garden and house since.......not.

I think I may have seen the Fulvia reg no that started this thread. I'll look deeper.

Michael Rigg/Anthony Edmonson, Class 2 (Group1 1300 class). No other info I'm afraid. Can't confirm reg no as Scottish never published reg nos.

No trace of Fulvia APY506K in the revised Memory Lanes (MN Championship 70-73).
George Hill in Italian reg car, Pettigrew SLW369F, Wilkinson ATV5F, (Richard) Hudson-Evans FUE571K are the only identifiable Fulvias.

Many thanks RS2000. I think the car must have been simple to register an entry and then another used. Still, exciting for a time! Thank you.
