Back in the late 70's I recollect a CZ 250 watercooled twin which was only around for a short time but was ridden a few times in the UK by Eddie Roberts. Has anyone got any info or photos of this bike?

Do you mean Jawa? I remember him on that in about 1976?

Yes that's it. For some reason I thought it was a CZ, maybe because I only think of the 350 four when the name Jawa comes up.

Thanks Graham

I'm sure Dave Hickman rode one for a while also.

I think there was only ever one in existence, Eddie rode it after Peter Balaz, it could possibly have gone to Dave Hickman after that.

I seem to recall one of the mags got their hands on it for a test, either MCN during the 70's or possibly Classic Racer have had done a test on it since, i've certainly seen a test report somewhere.

edited to say - just googled Peter Balaz and there are several images of the bike on there.

Just checked on the TT database and both Dave Hickman and Eddie Roberts rode Jawas in the 1978 Junior TT finishing 31st and 40th respectively.
Presumably full-size 350's?

Yes of course - from 1977 the Junior race was for 250's and not 350's as was the case in previous years  !

Looking at the photo Graham posted it looks like the bike was a disc valve parallel twin, am I correct?

If you nip back to google and try "Peter Balaz Jawa 250" there's a picture about halfway down in google images of the bike unfaired, its a poor quality shot but it certainly looks like a disc valve motor.

I remember seeing Balaz on the bike at the Cadwell international around 1976.

Both Eddie & dave raced the jawa in the late 70s, eddie had a maxton frame ,not sure what frame daves had, dave definitely raced his at cadwell as i can remember riding against him on the jawa i believe it was 1977.
I met Peter Balaz at spa in 2010 where he was riding the jawa which was a rotary disc valve twin .
