I have tried to use the search to find this but it doesn't appear to have cropped up - a request has been posted by 'RealRonHoward' (yes, he of Happy Days fame and latterly the successful film producer) as follows:
@RealRonHoward
Ron Howard Any one know the young boy who shot the 8mm footage of Lauda's crash? I'm looking for leads
@RealRonHoward
Ron Howard I'm told Niki crash was filmed by a kid. I haven't been able to find out who Leads anyone? http://www.youtube.c...be_gdata_player
I assume this is to do with ongoing production of the new movie regarding his rivalry with James Hunt - if anyone is able to furnish said info i'll happily direct Mister Howard this way for the necessaries
Many thanks in advance and best wishes.....wrighty

Best would be to contact Heinz Prueller or Herbert Volker, both Lauda biographers. Lauda himself may also know.

If my memory serves me right I remember that this private film sequence was presented in " ZDF Sport Studio" the week after the German GP (= Saturday / 07.08.1976?).
The man (German, in his thirties) who shot the film was there as well and was interviewed by the moderator.
Please get in contact with ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen / Second German Television) via b2b@zdf.de or call press office (for Journos) / +49 - 6131 - 70 -12120.
I hope they can help you.
Regards, Andreas

wasn't this bit of home movie used in the 'Rivals' (title??) BBC production a good few years ago?? This was the series that concentrated on sporting rivalry ; Lauda v. Hunt / McEnroe v. Borg .......I'm not sure I've got the right title though.
after some considerable digging....'Clash of the Titans' (Hunt vs Lauda was ep 1, first transmitted June 10th 1996)
Andreas, many thanks, i have forwarded details of your post for further info
