I have a inkling that it might have been a World Cup Final day in 1974 but that would have been in July and this looks more like a Gold Cup Crowd?
Fingers crossed picture appears!!

I was at Brands that day, I can distinctly remember sitting on the grass bank at Clearways when the commentator announced that Holland had just taken a one goal lead. I'll see if I can look up the date when I get home this evening.

I love the fact that the Blue Bar catering wagon is still in exactly the same place today!! I wonder if it's ever moved :)

When I was a regular at Croft the Blue Bar wagon was a fixture, the boss was a big fat bloke who drove an American motor and as we were always there racing he would often let us have pie & peas at half price and if he was trying something new he would gives us a free sample for our opinion.
A real gent and a character around the tracks.
I have heard he's no longer with us.
Wish the crowds were as big now.

While the present race card stays as it is , and the crowds are fenced even further from the action that will never happen

BTW , you never see a speedway crowd pushed further from the action , do you ?? , wonder why that is  ??

Scarborough still does well for supporters, I often get to the Gold Cup and with a bit of good weather its heaving.

Mind you, its still possible to feel the wind in your face from passing bikes at Scarborough, with one or two exceptions the spectating arrangements are still pretty much as they were in the 70's

Stumbled upon this recently, some cracking scarborough shots here Racing Shots

Sorry to pre-empt you, 7th July 1974, Dutch penalty in the first minute given by English ref Jack Taylor cancelled out by Paul Breitner and Gerd Muller. First of two WC finals in a row that the Dutch lost. I loved the 'total' football that they played
