Two Cunningham C-4Rs were entered in the sports car race supporting the British GP in 1953. Walters seems to have retired. Does anyone know how Briggs Cunningham finished?
Many thanks.

Retired after 13 laps with suspected piston failure. Fourth fastest in practice behind two Astons and Walters, running 6th when he retired.

"Classic & Sportscar", September 1987, has a picture of Cunningham's CR4 belching a trail of smoke as it retires from the race with "suspected piston failure". The race report in "Road & Track", November 1953, has a side view of Phil Walters' CR4, and states "Briggs Cunningham, driving one of his Cunninghams, had to retire during the fourteenth lap when an oil line broke and set his car on fire. He was unhurt and put out the fire but was not able to continue. Phil Walters of West Palm Beach, Fla., retired with gear box trouble during the seventh lap."
