It will be interesting to see how the likes of Frank Wrathell, Rob Austin and Dan Welch get on this year. They have run complete NGTC cars last year and I wonder whether they will be at an advantage all be slight over those that are following the NGTC rules in full for the first time this year. Although, I don't think I will include Team Dynamics in that.

think it will be like Andrew Jordan and the turbo Vectras last season. Has an advantage in the first half of the season but the 2nd half of the season everyone will be used to it and catch up.

i do hope the Proton goes well though, seemed to be a pretty decent car last season

I think it could be anybody's championship this year. I think Honda will be strong again but they are in transition as are all the other teams. It think it would be good for the championship if someone from a smaller team won.

Technically not, he voiced the UK version of the "Truth in 24" documentary about Audi's 2008 Le Mans campaign and victory. And he got dragged into a bit of commentary (4-5 hours in total through practice and the race) on both Eurosport and Radio Le Mans at the LM24h in 2009.

Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!! Toby Moody is easily one of the very best is the business and for me is everything that Ben Edwards was 10 years ago. He's commentated on the Dakar for Eurosport and the Silverstone classic for Motors TV as well.

Try and find some British Eurosport clips of Moto GP, then compare them to the BBCs. Cox and Parrish have the ability to make thee most thrilling race sound dull and boring whilst Moody and Rider make a puddle the most exciting thing ever! The BTCC is so lucky to have him, now the fans will see just how poor Ben Edwards has become and that's coming from a BE fan myself.

Very surprised but very impressed by this appointment.

He's a fantastic commentator on MotoGP and he's done well on various 4 wheel guest slots I've heard.

Looking forward to how this thread will pick up once the season commences, there are some good people here. I thought I would take a look at the official BTCC.net forum earlier, haha I won't be doing that again, most on there seriously have not one clue about motorsport in their heads.

I know what you mean, some of the guys I've seen on there and the circuit as well have been only interested in 'bangin' motors togevva innit'.... basically Rob Collard fans :p

Hopefully he'll be more critical of the drivers than Edwards was. Quite blatant punting off other drivers off should be highlighted by the commentators, whereas Edwards seems to steer away from controversy.

I prefer it when the main commentator avoids making judgements, instead leaving it to the colour commentator. Although Tim Harvey is also quite lenient in this respect.

He's ex-Triple Eight driver Gavin Smith's younger brother, and made his BTCC d├ębut at Knockhill last year. He was the runner-up in Renault Clios last year.

In other news, Alex MacDowell has joined Boardman, Chilton and Nash in moving to the WTCC. He will drive a Bamboo Engineering Chevrolet Cruze.

Rob Hedley will drive a second Vauxhall Insignia alonsgide John Thorne.

According to Wikipedia, there are now 25 confirmed drivers, and four more seats still available.

It's shaping up to be a great year again, hopefully the MG can get in the mix

25 drivers so far is great, maybe a couple more still to come.

Can't wait for the season to start...

Shame about the livery, it looks naff. The car looks cool, more tough looking like the other NGTCs (especially the new Honda, which looks awesome!) but they could've made the sponsors fit an overall colour scheme...

We were told yesterday to expect a few more teams/drivers which weren't ready for the Media Day yesterday. Currently downloading all of my pictures. Jakob Ebrey has some great stuff on his website (and yes I do appear in some of the pictures :o ).

Did raise a chuckle at Rob Collard describing the car he's driven in previous years as "a bit asthmatic". You could also tell it was the first day of term as some of the drivers had smart haircuts.

Maybe they aren't all Mr Universe contenders (only have to check out Liam Griffin's flying hair!) but looks aren't everything! You get a lot more smiles from the BTCC guys as well when they are interviewed. The rest of the pictures will be on my Flickr as soon as the upload has finished.

FP1: Rob Collard leads opening British Touring Car practice session at Brands Hatch

FP2: Andrew Jordan fastest in Brands Hatch British Touring Car practice as new-for-2012 cars fly

The MGs were four seconds off the pace in the first session, but improved in the second. Gordon Shedden is suffering from a persistent electrical problem that has prevented him from setting a representative time.

Shows there's still some pace in that Vectra compared to all the new NGTC's! I still fancy a Honda to win, that car looks too good (especially in the Pirtek colours) NOT to be decent. Also like the MG now it's got a proper splitter, though the livery isn't a grower I fear....

Neal to win race 1. Newsham 3rd.

Plato trying to blame Newsham for someone driving hard into his back right.

I assume having the power of a turbo confused him. Of course he's still got something to bitch about on the car.

If I tried that shit over in Covkart I'd be having very lengthy words with the officials, I'm surprised he's escaped at least a drive through.

That's such a shame for Newsham. He would have had the lead after that. Such a promising start to the weekend and now thrown away. I say look out for him in race 3.

Glad the 2 BMWs got in front there.

And the MG paint scheme looks like someone thrown up over it.
