Plato and MG win. Wow! Even though I don't think much of Jason for his move in race 1, Triple 8 and MG have to be congratulated for bringing this new car in and making it work.

Looked like a hard fought race all the way down too.

Moody and Harvey were fantastic in the box.

If ever there was a man designed for BTCC commentary it's Moody!

He just replaces the skilled art of overtaking with ramming the quarter panel and hoping they go off without taking him out also.

Always thought that was Matt Neal  , he always comes across as a guy who has no finesse when attempting to pass, so he just punts them out of the way, ask Gordon Shedden. By the same token Plato went for a gap going into paddock in race one that wasn't there. But all in all I have always thought that Plato is a tough but fair racer for the majority of the time.

Think Jeff Smith should get An endorsement for that move on Collard though.

It all seemed so promising in the build up to the season opener. Then the racing started and it was the same old. How do some of those guys get racing licenses? Moreover, how do some of them keep their racing licenses?

I wonder if Plato has ever managed an overtake that didn't involve punting the car in front into a slide or right off the track. Are the stewards and Gow that scared to really penalise him? Was almost shouting at the telly for Jordan to seize the moment in race 3!

Just looked on there, he had budgeted £4k for spares for the entire season

Its HRT x 1,000,000.

Isn't he meant to be running a second car later in the season? What's the budget for that, I wonder?

Shame that Shedden has been disqualified from the last race due to work done during the red flag/parc ferme conditions.

How about Newsham, it looked like they did a tape job on his car before the restart?

In his podium interview, Newsham said they checked with the stewards if it was ok and it was fine by them.

Thanks, missed the post-race stuff due to the sky controller being confiscated as soon as Plato went past the flag! Nice of the stewards to give him a break, shame they didn't do the right thing in race 1.

Same here, although that move in race 1 was a bit too much.

The series needs their top names to be in the mix, and good to see the MG get a win.

Bit disappointed with the Audi though

I don't mind a bit of contact but Plato was clearly nudging tails in the breaking zones to squeeze any defending car out of the way, the way he was doing it was so sneaky. Guess it's all within the rules but I don't like it, the line will get crossed sooner or later.

Plato made clean passes too, so it's not like it can't be done.

Unfortunately Plato and Neal have been using that "technique" for years, probably their whole careers. Rarely see either one of them overtake someone without giving them a push first. It seems to be accepted in BTCC now, which is a shame. Giovanardi seemed to be one of the few top class drivers that was able to overtake cleanly, in recent years. I miss him. He had class that Plato and Neal could only dream of having.

There are some good blokes in the BTCC this year too. Driving standards haven't improved sadly. Having said that even Jason made some clean passes yesterday and what a shocking result for the MG - I really thought Jason would spend the first half of the season in the midfield. Team ES Racing have proved to be a real surprise and I am desperately hoping that will continue through the season. Hoping the Sunshine lot will be able to get a car together and I really hope that Paul O'Neill can get himself back into a race seat.

I miss Fabrizio too from the grid. If you're not careful I shall end up wandering down memory lane with anecdotes from days gone by (yes I know it's more suitable for TNF) and recollections of encounters on the grid and clashes on the track and those great pit-to-car radio messages which had no consideration for either live TV or political correctness.

Well judging from the Newsham interview yesterday it doesn't sound like they're planning on a lot of development work.

Having watched the WTCC in Valencia too, the difference in driving standards between the two championships is now night and day.

Team Aon with Chilton are languishing near the back having made the move this year. The likes of Muller and Huff made the transition easily, but I can't see that happening anymore.

The BTCC is certainly more entertaining though, but not for the right reasons.

So, Plato's on pole at Donington in the new MG. Would anyone bet against him for the championship this year?

I'm still hoping for Shedden, but Plato does look at home in the MG already. Hoping for Plato and Neal to have their usual fireworks this year.

The great thing is that the MG is competitive right out of the box. It's probably too soon to be thinking about the championship though.

I disagree, I think Plato will be a contender. Although it's a new car, it's run by 888 who will be able to find time out of the chassis throughout the year.

I'm slightly bemused by everyone being so amazed at the MG.
At the end of the day the team are hugely experienced and no doubt have a decent budget.

The cars run a common subframe, so much of the engineering with regards to geometry is based around a known and tested component.
The rear end is (I guess) reasonably conventional and given the weighting/cog spring and damping rates can be calculated fairly accurately.

A big fuss was being made about the car only being ready a week before the last race, but in reality the car was built and designed weeks ago, it just didn't exist.

I wouldn't expect much less from 888 to be honest.

If you want to watch processions of "pure" racing there are plenty to choose from. Usually with tiny grids.

BTCC is pure entertainment.

Never understand all the Plato comments either. I've been watching BTCC since the RS500 days and I'd say that Neal is far worse for punting people out of the way.

without a doubt, Matt Neal cant overtake anyone without a push. he is the worst for it. but Plato uses the same "tactic" too often

A typical Plato move that. Not sure what he was trying to do but Collard wasn't just going to disappear. Collard's recovery was impressive.

The other incident looked like a racing incident. I don't think Griffin was in the right to go after James in the gravel like that.

Great win by Flash Gordon!

Agreed, he had to come back on the track and was taking near enough to the edge of the race course, he had nowhere to go.

All that was caused by Collard making a mess of his recovery to the track. Haven't seen what happened to the other MG on the front straight yet. TV director was asleep.

A great recovery by Plato, and a frantic final lap between the top 3, ruined somewhat by Plato pushing Shedden out of the way at the final corner. Another win for Jackson. Dunno how he held on there.

Gordon not happy at all there on the radio.
