The 1987 Williams FW11C was a test car for the 1988 FW12, the new Judd V8-powered Williams that was to replace the Honda powered FW11Bs.

I wonder if this unique 11C, which I believe has chassis no. FW11C-7, was ever used in B-spec (and thus with a Honda engine) or whether it was purpose built for testing the Judd. Also, were the 1987 11Bs converted 1986 11s or all new chassis? Thank you for any input you may have on this!

The 1987 b's were all new, although they looked identical from the outside the inner bulheads were repositioned to give a lower seating position for the driver. This is evidenced by the fact that Piquet's cars had a much shorter roll hoop than Mansell's.

Thanks!

Any info on whether 11C was ever an actual racing car, be it in 1986 (11) or 1987 (11B)?

The chassis log in the 1987-88 Autocourse shows the FW11-B tubs used during the 1987 season were numbered 1-6 and 8! Chassis number 7 must have been built if there was a number 8 so it seems that tub 7 was built for some other purpose, quite concievably as the Judd engined test mule.

That's what I thought; probably as soon as it was clear that Honda was to switch its support to Mclaren (a decission made that summer) chassis 7 was built to fit a Judd.

Thanks!
