When the hell is someone going to give EJ some elocution lessons?? There is no 'R' in SAFETY, EJ!! (saferty....sheesh!) :drunk:

To be fair, it's called Irish. You can't have a go at Kobayashi for not saying his L's properly!

Correct me if my memory is wrong, but didn't the BBC promise a 90 minute highlights package for EU races and 120 minutes for non-EU races back during pre-season? Bahrain highlights package is currently scheduled for 80 minutes in breach of that promise (by either 10 or 40 minutes depending on whether you consider Bahrain "European" or not), and you can probably bet your house that 20 minutes of that will be lost with pre- and post-race banter. Bahrain runs 90+ minutes. I know Bahrain hasn't traditionally been a great race, but we could be in for a treat this year and if that does happen the BBC viewers would get shafted by a butcher-job highlights package.

Very unimpressed with the BBC if they stick to the 80 minute show.

I'd think they'd struggle to fill 80min with reaction and conjecture as to why the Bahrain GP didn't happen because of some awful protest incident.

Just think of Sky, they have to fill 5hrs!!!

It would make interesting television. Not least because they'd have to explain why they've given the possible problems in Bahrain no coverage in previous broadcasts.

In a way, i hope something does happen (obviously without hurting anyone) so that Bernies flying circus has to sit up and take culpability of what they have got themselves into.

On a sidenote, i heard that Bernard Charles can't actually make it to the GP anyway, he has to support his GF running the London marthon. (Says the guy too busy to go to his own daughters wedding..............)

If it doesn't happen, the BBC can just grab something from archives to fill the gap and run the occasional overlay saying the highlights aren't on as the race didn't happen.

Fact is (I've checked now!) the BBC promised a minimum 90 minute highlights package (90 for Europe, 120 for non-Europe) back when the BBC/Sky split was announced. They've just broken that promise.

They promised full coverage would be on the BBC for a couple of more seasons and reneged on that. Think you will find they have their fingers crossed when they make many of their "promises".

Looks like Damon Hill is back for Bahrain, looking at this tweet from Johnny Herbert.

That's a shame. I like Damon, but Johnny is a much better in the role.

Didn't Damon Hill try a media career after he retired in 1999? That didn't work out either. He might be universally-liked, have cool hair and be very well connected in the motorsports world, but he's no TV personality.

Well finally I sort out my Sky Go 30 second delay for this weekend.

http://www.zen141854...o.uk/rupert.jpg

Only cost me £100.

And as you can see, this is no Heath Robinson affair. :rotfl:

My wife is loving it, she is so impressed she hacked in to James Murdoch's mobile phone just to tell him " Ta XXX now my living room looks like the HRT data centre, well at least the part that got through Spanish customs, c yu in hell OZ BOY"

My wife is more outspoken than Mark Webber

Great news. I like Damon, he brings a cool and professional edge to proceedings and what he has to say is always relevant. Johnny Herbert does bring the fun factor to it a little bit which can be entertaining but personally I'd prefer technical insight and content over banter and jokes and Hill delivers that insight for me.

I can't name anything specific, as I only have the races without the pre or post race coverage and so am unable to look back, however I will happily revisit this answer after the Bahrain GP, quotes and all. :)

So you haven't seen Hill yet, and you are just basing his performance on your opinion of the man?

I dont understand.

That's like saying, I know the lottery numbers, but I'll only tell you after they are announced.

I don't think Hill is dreadful, but I don't feel he adds much to the coverage and Herbert was a significant improvement.

What? No!

I've watched both Australia and Malaysia on Sky, I just don't have the footage to watch it again to accurately confirm and point out specific issues especially because his words are soooo forgettable. I am however willing to specifically look out for, note down and report such issues for Octavian's pleasure during the Bahrain GP.

Hill tends to be a bit eager to agree with whatever consensus Brundle is building. I mean when they are doing the Lazenby/Brundle/Hill thing. When it's just Hill/Lazenby he's better but once Brundle enters the picture he tends to "dominate" Damon if you understand what I mean.

I agree. That's not to say I dislike Damon's contributions, on the contrary, but this point still stands. Also I think he will 'grow' into the role with, simply put, practice and familiarity. I don't expect it to take him long to up his game.

I agree but although I did quite like Herbert last weekend he did have a bit of a clanger.

Literally 30 seconds after Brundle highlighted that the Sauber was the fastest car through the speed traps, Johnny said he was worried about Kobayashi's lack of top speed citing "This year's Ferrari engine" as the problem.

----

I recorded it last week but I just watched the "Legends" programme with Mario Andretti. I thought it was great.

I noticed that too - I rewound it because I thought I must have missed something or misunderstood, but he literally follow up Brundle's point that Sauber was fastest in the speed traps by saying their biggest problem might be a lack of top speed. You could sort of see Brundle's vacant stare at him as he dropped that clanger.

I assume tomorrow, assuming teams will treat it like a normal Grand Prix Thursday and assuming teams are at the circuit. As I posted in the other thread, BBC have sent Dan Roan out to cover the off-track events.

Any idea who will be commentating on practice then? Damon/Johnny or will Martin be doing the whole weekend?

AFAIK Herbert won't be in Bahrain either, my guess is Brundle will do all the commentating and Damon will carry the roving expert role. I don't see SKY putting Damon in a commentator gig, he's a bit too green for that.

Explains why there is a lot less buzz about this event on the SKy website and Ipad app - I am guessing a lot less people on teh ground for this race.

Damon has done commentary before, in place of Brundle during the ITV years, can't remember which race (races?). Maybe Hungary 07, or whenever the Hamilton-Alonso pit controversy was during qualifying. Pretty sure that was Hungary. I don't remember if he was any good mind you.

It wouldn't put Sky in good light if they promoted it a lot, especially if the race didn't take place. Plus there's no interviews or anything, so there's not much they can talk about anyway.

Oh, so the Skypad is a place rather than a thing? I thought it was like a gadget...

It's the thing attached to the wall, so it is a gadget.

Enjoyed "Weekend in Stills" but I am guessing the format will feel repetitive after few race weekends.

There was one beautiful shot of the Lotus from Friday (taken from the first part of the pit entry with the main grandstand out of focus in the backround). Does anyone know where I could find that?

I can't find one, at least not yet. It was similar to this albeit with the Lotus and it was generally just a better photo (or at least in appeared so on TV!)

A weekend off for @antdavidson so Jerome D’Ambrosio will be @croftyf1's co-commentator for the Practice sessions in Bahrain

Sky Go query..if someone would like to help.

I have a Sky Go account and I watch F1 races via my laptop at home. However; this weekend I am going out and I still want to watch the race. my questions is, does the sky go works on registered IP address or works on registered device. i.e. if I am not home, can I still watch it live, providing that I carry my laptop with me.

Thanks in advance.
