A quick Ebay search for the terms "Autosport" and "Rattlesnake" yields two results:

July 3rd 1953

June 21st 1957

Those, of course, are the issue dates. There may have been some delay in getting the articles to press.

Here is another orphan hillclimb date:
Oct. 15, 1955. Would that be the fall meeting at Hockley Valley? I found it in some old notes about 500cc F3 racing in North America, so the only result I have is that D. Clarke finished 10th in a Cooper-JAP.

I am putting together some other materal for you. I will send it by email.

Mike

The report doesn't give any indication of whether the event was the previous weekend or in February...

Thanks - I think we are safe in calling it the Spring meeting - the ref then is Autosport, June 21, 1957, Page 789.

Does the Hockley Valley result come in the same edition of Autosport?

I don't think so
And I'm not prepared to go through every copy of Autosport for the year to find out

Do you have the article "A Mile of Mud", from R&T, February 1960, two pages, 4 b/w pictures?

If not, send me a PM with your preferred email address, and I'll scan it for you.

Yes I do thanks: Road & Track, February 1960, Pages 76-77.

I suspect there is a ref to Hockley Valley in Road & Track in a Calendar of Events towards the end of 1961? The date would be good. RGDS RLT

I will check much later this evening as I am very interested in this canadian history from a jaguar perspective

Terry, Have I got Jaguar stuff for you - let me have your email address. I would love to have scans from the Autosport material - without wishing to sound like a complete nerd I believe that motor racing history is just as important as any other history, and needs to be done to a proper academic standard to be credible. There, I've said it.

Thanks to Terry McGrath we now have:

1957 Hockley Valley
1 Fred Hayes (Allard-Cadillac) 1min, 6.28 sec
2 Peter Hayes (AC Ace-Bristol) 1min, 8.18 sec
3 Adam Sands (Morgan) 1min, 11.9 sec
Autosport, June 14, 1957, Page 756.

1957 Rattlesnake:
1 Fred Hayes (Allard-Cadillac) 50.89 sec
2 Don Stewart (XK120) 51.90 sec
3 Peter Hayes (AC Ace-Bristol) 52.74 sec
Autosport, June 14, 1957, Page 756; Autosport, June 21, 1957, Page 789.

There is a picture of the Jordan Special, later to be the dominant car in Canadian hillclimbing, in Autosport, July 5, 1957, Page 10.

Can anybody shed any more light on this? The car Horst Kroll was driving (maybe Formula Vee)? The events in 1962, 1963?

Globe and Mail, (Toronto, ON), Monday, July 6, 1964, Page 24.
Climbing Event Won
By Kroll 3rd Time

Special to the Globe and Mail
Milton-For the third year in
a row, Horst Kroll of Toronto
won the Burlington Auto Sport
Club's Hill Climb at Rattle-
snake Point near Milton on
Saturday. Driving a single-
seater Formula Libre, he
clocked 47.847 seconds for the
twisty, half-mile gravel climb to
win the Studebaker trophy.
So great was the competition
among the record 45-car entry
that the first eight cars all
recorded times within 1½ sec-
onds of the winner. Second
fastest time of the day was
recorded by Gerd Schwarzkopf
of Toronto in a Porsche with
47.967 seconds. A Jaguar XK-E
driven by Jim McCloud of
Aurora took third place with a
time of 48.610 seconds.
Rear-engined cars dominated
the fastest time on what was a
slippery and muddy road sur-
face, and the usually superior
power of the McCloud and
Bowles Jaguar XK-E's were of
little use.
A surprise entry was that of
top racing driver Ludwig Heim-
rath, a strong favourite for this
year's Canadian Racing Driv-
er's Championship.
Usually seen in the Comstock
team Cooper-Ford, he drove a
borrowed, modified Austin-
Cooper to a first in class and
sixth place overall.

Hockley Valley Hill Climb, Spring 1961:
"This has been a fairly wet spring and for the first time
in our history said rain washed out our hill climb at Hockley.
Members of the speed committee visiting the sad scene were nearly
lost in deep canyons crossing the road and we will be lucky to
have a fall climb. That's a grand time of the year for Hockley
and we hope conditions will have improved."
BEMC Small Torque, Vol.14 Issue 7, July 1961, Page 5.

This wasn't the first time the event was washed out - also happened Spring 1954, Spring 1959.

We can now declare Don Haddow, Jordan Special, the all-time course record holder in 1 min, 1.64 secs - this set at the Fall meeting, 1959. Where is that car?

Official Programme: The Sports Car Club, Sports Car Trophy Races, Edenvale,
August 2nd, 1952:
"Peter Dillnutt-Peter is usually seen driving Trident Motors 500 c.c. Cooper in
which he won the Formula III at Palm Beach in Florida last December. There is
some doubt whether front end parts will come from England in time but Peter will
be driving something perchance even his 1931 Stutz.
"Our climbs are held at Rattlesnake Point about 4 miles southwest of Milton,
Ontario where Peter Dillnutt (Cooper) holds the record and Peter Hayes
(T.C.M.G.) is 1952 champion."
Trident Motors was a Ford dealer - imported Charles Wheaton's Aston Martin DB2.
We are missing when Dillnutt set the Rattlesnake record in the Cooper?
