Apologies if this has been discussed - I searched and didn't turn anything up. Was asked the question in a quiz last week and didn't like the answer given.

Wikipedia lists Farina as "Emilio Giuseppe Farina". "Emilio" was added in 2004 anonymously and without citation.

Gerald Donaldson's profile on Formula1.com calls him "Giuseppe Antonio Farina".

I don't recall ever reading anything which called him anything other than "Giuseppe Farina".

"Antonio" makes more sense to me, given the diminutive "Nino".

The Wiki name is used all over the Web, but then it would be - most of the references are straight quotes from Wikipedia.

Has anyone a better citation?

Are there any results where he is listed with initials? If he was listed somewhere as G. E. Farina for instance, that would give us a clue.

"Emilio Giuseppe" rang a bell: http://forums.autosp...w...t&p=2971820

I've also just had a look at several columns of memorial tributes in La Stampa: not one calls him anything other than "Dr Farina" or "Nino Farina".

Hmm, might there be some sort of confusion here? Googling "Giuseppe Emilio Farina" brought this up:

Don Battista Gotti venne condannato a morte insieme a Giuseppe Emilio Farina, organizzatore e commissario politico della formazione, che era stato arrestato a Bergamo quella stessa sera.

Don Battista Gotti was sentenced to death along with Giuseppe Emilio Farina, organizer and political commissioner of the training, who was arrested in Bergamo that same evening.

This is from the same period and civil conflict which saw the assassination of Ugo Gobbato of Alfa Romeo and the summary execution of racing driver Edoardo Teagno.

Cesare De Agostini's book 'Farina Il Primo Iridato' (Giorgio Nada Editore 2007) only has him as 'Giuseppe 'Nino' Farina'.

I'd be surprised if Pierre Abeillon would make that sort of mistake

Here in New Zealand we simply referred to him as "Bruce Farina".

His tomb only says Giuseppe Nino Farina.
