Did some fast Photoshops wondering what some of the cars would look like in pre-2012 nose trim... some look pretty good.

Nice, but illegal. So you might as well add jet engines to the top of the sidepods and mini-guns in the front wing endplates.

Honestly, the FIA could have easily stipulated these kind of noses (i.e: set the max height of the nose to 250-ish mm above the reference plane, instead of 550) that's all they would have to do. Teams would be forced to create a smooth downwards sloping nose as creating a step with 250mm being the max height from a 625mm chassis would create the front end of a ****ing bus (which a team would have to do if they wanted to reuse the old 625mm chassis, but that's their fault).

It's not rocket science. If the FIA were going to lower the noses I seriously don't know why they said 550mm instead of much lower.

Because the FIA/Teams want to get the air under the car to the diffuser not over it creating huge wakes so that the cars behind can't follow closely.

They still made a mess of the new rules on the nose cones though, they should have waited a year for the other rules about the bulkhead height to implement lower noses.

The Ferrari still looks quite bad, those front wing pillars and the general cross sectional shape of the nose aren't particularly endearing, combine it with a step nose however and it really takes the cake. For me it's the Caterham, Ferrari or Mercedes which are the worst looking noses of 2012.

thanks, yea I know its not legal just did it for fun, funnily though I didn't alter the nose tips at all so I don't see why the FIA made the bump.. why not just lower the nose tips to say the wheel centreline if they actually wanted to lower the nose.

Wow, they would look beautiful.

I agree that Ferrari's front wing pillars still ruins it. They're huge and square.
