Bobby Bloody Fearnall, as Catchpole once called him, was far too young to go.

That's sad news.

He'll always be remembered for being a big part of Donington but was also, I believe, a Journalist in earlier years plus sat alongside James Hunt to win the 73 Avon Tour of Britian.

RIP Robert

Terrible, terrible news. I am so upset. Whilst I hardly knew him, I can well remember that every time you were anywhere near him there was always fun, laughter and smiling faces. Everybody seemed to love him.

I have often wondered about his 1973 victory in the Avon Tour with Master James - I bet they are having a right laugh now about it all up there. I don't think a lot was written about it at the time, unless I am mistaken.

I expect Messrs Taylor and Tirchmarsh will, hopefully, share their thoughts. How very sad.

Sad news indeed, I had no idea that he was so young when he won the Tour of Britain, as Mark says, what a hoot they must have had..................."Fearnall, Robert bloody Fearnall........."

I am very saddened by this news. Robert started out at Oulton Park at virtually the same time as myself in 1968, and he was the same age as me. Frankly, he got right up my nose initially with his tweed jacket, pressed trousers and tie (at 14 years of age!) and he always seemed to be glued to John Webb. However as time came to pass, I discovered that he was quite an amiable chap who was reporting on race meetings for Motoring News and Autosport at that time, and managed to get my contemporary & good friend Mike Godfrey work with those mags too that eventually resulted in him working with Luca di Montezemolo . Can you imagine, many race reports in those days were being written by two fifteen year olds!!!
Robert was a very clever boy indeed, and hugely talented. What a loss to motorsport.

This news, just read, comes as a most unwelcome shock. Condolences indeed to all Robert's family and friends...way too young. That's just unfair.

Top bloke; every time we talked I was reduced to tears within seconds.
The first time we met was when I was introduced to him in the old bus at Aintree by our esteemed thread-starter.
The last time was in the cafe at Donington a couple of years ago; he got worse, rather than better, I am pleased to report. :)

Very sad to hear this news. I was privileged to be able to assist Robert with a couple of events some years ago and I know that behind the scenes at Silverstone and at Donington in particular he was greatly respected by everyone. I am sure that he will be greatly missed by many.

Very sad news indeed  , that Rob has passed away. Part of the make up in the Donington Park story since the year dot, I always regarded Rob as Tom`s `right hand man`. Whenever I visited the cafe at the Collection, Rob would be sat there with his diary and phone (which seemed to constantly in action!) or just politely making conversation with everyone :D .
RIP Mr Fearnall, Donington Park has lost another one of the stalwarts that ensured the future of the Heart of British Motorsport keeps beating  .
