These photographs from the George Grantham Bain Collection (U.S. Library of Congress) feature the rather badly conceived sport of auto polo (ca. 1910-1915).

Note the fabricated roll cages.

Looks like those Model Ts are not very stable 
These Saxons look much safer, so presumably don't need the roll bars
