Yes, that was kinda my point. :D

We've seen more great drives through the field in the past though, it's not all doomed for Lewis.

He needs to be doing a rain dance in the paddock.

I see even NK will start ahead of him: he who never set a time to be on the grid. :stoned:

And you don't think he learned from that? Because I think he did. Already had quite the bad luck this season yet drove brilliantly today.

I wouldn't go as far as to say this will ruin the rest of his season, even though you didn't literally say this.

I certainly hope he learned from it and I'm not saying it will derail his season I'm just fearful...

The amount of frustration right now must be enormous BUT he knows he has a good car and no-one else out there has a dominate one.

Unfortunately I think it was you who said if he wants to win the WDC he needs to take advantage of days like this ((before the penalty)...just like starting 2nd in china would have been a great relative starting place compared to competition. In the races where he can make the difference circumstances beyond his control are taking it away from him.

Just hope he does his best tomorrow and then keeps going and his luck changes, the good thing is it's a wide spread close race for the WDC...on the other hand the bad thing is in a race where every point may count mclaren are shipping them on his behalf left right and centre.

Lewis has beat jenson in Quali in every race and lets look at those races where the team screwed Lewis over.

Australia - gave him the wrong clutch settings allowing JB to beat him off the line
Maly - Awful pitstop allowing Jenson to get ahead
China - 5 grid penalty as the gearbox was damaged in transit
Bahrain - not sure if i can even mention the pitstops as they are just a complete joke
Spain -

Yes, Lewis has come out of every single first stop behind Jenson, other than the one before the restart in Malaysia. I thought that was over earlier today, barring something outlandish. Well...

Statistically, considering he's attained a better grid position at every single race so far, that is quite outstanding.

Well here is to a calm and controlled climb through the field by LH tomorrow.... no use him losing his front wing against a Lotus.

Sod that, lets hope for a wildly powersliding brilliant climb throught the field where he transcends the tyres and the track and wins by overtaking fred on the last lap! :D

Once Hamilton qualified 10 places ahead of Button, I said Whitmarsh would have to come up with something special to get JB ahead.

Can't believe he actually managed it.

His new confidant SM did. They new already of the fueling error yet did not call Lewis in and accept P4-5-6 but would rather have dead last.
Incredible :drunk:

Like you say, it's a very mixed grid. There's basically 7 teams that could quite realistically win races. How far in history do you have to go for that?

I was very happy to see no Red Bulls on the first 2 rows. Even though they seem stronger in races, this means that no team can consistently keep up strong performances.

Lewis should realize this. In the end it's about consistency in seasons like this and Hamilton has scored in every race and still had a good possibility to keep that up if he plays it smart tomorrow and the team actually performs normal pitstops for him.

Reminds me uncomfortably of monaco last year when he was massively frustrated at not getting the opportunity with a great car in quali, was at a track where's it difficult to overtake, forced it too much....and then his whole season unravelled...

Well we now get to see if he is truely "in a better place"...

Soo let's take a minute and discuss Button's moaning, First he has understeer then he has oversteer ? Crying about the balance. Will this trend dictate his season ? :cat:

Mr Nice Guy again ahead,beautiful... beautiful.

I told you,the biggest difference between this year and last year is that Lewis stopped crashing with others.
Last year you couldn't see the errors because he,desperate on sunday was doing wrong.

I Hope he still smart and play the points tomorrow.

So qualifying goes to Jenson...

In any case, factually Lewis beat Jenson in Q2.

Oh wait, the stewards just beat our logic senseless.

Nonsense, if the balance issues for Jenson remain he'll suffer from more tyre wear while driving at a slower pace.

I think you need to relearn the definition of 'nonsense'. LH will have to make up 10 (with field-spread) on tyres that have a very short lifespan (all of which are used). And issues in quali don't necessarily translate into the race.

Nonsense? What kind of idiot are you? People like you are annoying.

That's such utter bollocks and completely derails any legitimate discussions about maccas screw ups regarding lewis/lewis's bad luck this season

Why is it bollocks? Tell me. It's just like disscussin Vettel vs Webber, or Alonso vs Massa, or Schumacher vs Barichelo, Massa, Irvine. With all of these drivers the team has massivly tiped the balance in favor of one driver. At what point do we admit that the same thing has been happening at McLaren. That the team is tipping the balence twords Buttton. At what point do constan mistake become a pattern.

Its not over yet...Mclaren can still play to their weaknesses... Strategy.
A sensible brain would put Lewis on a long first stint on new hards as he can make them work but I imagine Mclaren will stick used options on him and kick him in the balls while he is on the ground reeling from the first nock down. :(

Martin Whitmarsh said they will use an old set of soft tyres and do a 30 lap stint and then switch to another set of soft tyres and do 2 laps on them and then put on inters for the final stint.

Jenson is just the more rounded driver - better at strategy, better at looking after his tyres, better at fuelling his car for qualifying.

It explains why Martin was looking glum when he was interviewed by Gary Anderson on the BBC -- he knew they were in trouble.

I recon he was worried the FIA might go light on Lewis and only hand out a fine. I heard that he was seen spraying champagne in Jensons's mouth when the stewards meeting finished.

He was glum for 2 reasons. 1. His boy got dumped in Q2 and 2. The Hamilton fuelling balls up, just compounded it. A joke day all around. Hamilton showed Button a clean pair of heels. 5-0 in qualifying. No surprise there.

I wasn't referring to my scorecard, rather this Spanish 2012 qualifing will be remembered as Jenson outqualifying Lewis.

No, I get it, but in the same vein as this being Maldonado's first pole, I applied the same logic.

Obviously Lewis outdrove JB today. To be honest you can just take anything I post today with a 'slight' pinch of salt, because I'm in a kind frenzy of anger at the the world right now

I'm amazed no one has commented on the fact that Jenson got out of the car and added the fuel himself.

That's what being an all-round driver is about, Hamilton will learn this one day.

I for one blame the team switching to Pirelli fuel. Fuel management has always played a big role in F1 but this fuel in particularly punishes aggressive drivers like Lewis, and works in favour of smoother drivers like Button.

Fantastic quali by Hamilton, just mega. Button frustratingly lukewarm really, whatever the reason.

I'll be cheering Hamilton hard in the race - very hard on him after such and exceptional session. I also liked his press conference attitude and thought it bode well for the race.
