Any flutters on the opening GP or for the season from anyone?

Considering McLaren are widely considered to be 2nd best team behind RB (and very close 2nd at that) you can get good odds on them at the minute. Just got 6/1 on Lewis for pole and 6/1 on Jenson for the race.

Was tempted by the even higher odds on Mercedes but that mixed conditions are rarely a true pace indicator.

I'm not a gambler by nature but I did place some bets. Signed up with Skybet yesterday so when I added €10 to my balance I got another €10 free bet, I also got €12 free credit for the online games which I then converted to €8.06 balance.
So this is what my account looks like with them:

€10 on Alonso at 8/1 for the WDC
€10 on Vettel at 1/1 for the WDC (Free bet)
€8.06 on Button at 13/2 for the WDC (Free credit)

As silly as gambling is, I think i've taken a reasonable approach and full advantage of their signing up offer. Now for the long wait.

I have a tenner on Raikonnen at 18-1. I've had successes with similar bets on Fisichella and Button in Australia before.

I have £50.00 on Jenson for the WDC at 7/1 with William Hill
And I have backed McLaren to be the winning car in Australia at 2.76 on Betfair.
Also £50.00 on Seb to be on pole at 1/1 with William Hill

Perez for winning Australia at 151/1.

Same for Kobayashi.

Schumacher for winning the WDC at 29/1.

I don't gamble and I put these down just for the fun of it. Probably a real gambler would not place bets he expects to lose!

£5 on McLaren win 9/4

£5 on Lewis Hamilton podium 8/11

If both come through get £24ish.

I too bet Fisichella to win Aus GP in '05  Luckiest bet I've ever made.

Haven't bet in a while partly because I haven't been following F1 as closely lately and partly because I suspect the market is quite a bit more competitive now than it was a few years ago. Back then betting on F1 was quite profitable. Now everyone's on the internets, testing times are widely available and analyzed etc...

I have £20 on Kimi on an each way. Can't remember odds as bit more complicated with each way, but for the 20 down it's a £240 return for a podium finish.

Where did you all get these odds on Kimi? Just last week I stuck a tenner on him each way at 33-1. Looking at £207 if he wins.

Had to put down one more bet: Grosjean for pole on 51/1.

Also noticed that Massa was offered at 67/1. So Ferrari must be worse off than Lotus!

WDC - £10 on Hamilton at 5/1
WCC - £10 on McLaren at 7/4

Probably could have got better odds but it was after a pub lunch with a friend arguing over who would win this year, we both went to the closest bookies and put down our bets.

What's a 'each way' bet?

Means you will get paid a 1/4 the odds if he comes 2nd or 3rd. Although the terms vary from bookie to bookie.
If he wins he gets £1690.00 if he come 2nd or 3rd he gets £350.00. It depends on the terms, it could be 1/5 or 1/3 the odds or only 1st and 2nd.

this explains it best: http://en.wikipedia..../Each-way_(bet)

basically half your bet goes towards the win portion and the other half pays out on place if your man gets second or third. I think on 66/1 ew £20 gives £820ish for WDC and £120 odd for 2nd or third. Third is not an unrealistic possibility considering how Frentzen ended up in '99, but it's just a bit of fun really.

Catchup after Q, Lewis bags me £30.

And Jenson has a great chance to win me my other £30 tomorrow, he rarely goes backwards in the race.

After the incredible qualifying this morning the betting market reacted immediately to the change in the top WDC and WCC positions.

Posted Image

Here are the data and the modified pie charts with the snap shots of today. Of the match odds particularly the Lotus match has reacted. My impression is that will change later on perhaps after the race for some other teams.

Posted Image

The WDC historic odds chart sees a big change in the order with Hamilton going on P1 displacing Vettel to P2. Alonso takes a big dive to five and Rosberg makes up a lot of ground.

Posted Image

In the WCC odds McLaren and Red Bull change the oder as do Ferrari and Mercedes. The spread between the five top teams has become much smaller. I'm not sure that the betting money is representing Lotus correctly here. My impression is that Lotus may do much better this year than P5 in constructors.

Judging by Qualifying today I would say that Button represents very good value, Hamilton, although fast simply made too many errors as did Vettel. Schumacher and Rosberg were superb, Schumacher however making too many errors were simply not fast enough when required, yet Webber and Vittell , with Vittell making errors. Grojean was superb however I doubt LOTUS/Renault have the experience to carry this forward to result. So for tomorrow Hamilton to lead off but destry his tyres and have to pit out of sequence, Vittell will overdrive as he has in the past so the final result will be Button, Webber and Rosberg. ow is that for a prediction?

Schumacher is definately worth an each way bet at 12/1 for tomrrow, as the each way tersm offer 1/4 the odds for the top 3 places, so all he has to do (assuming its a mclaren 1-2) is get up from 4th to 3rd, and he tends to go forwards in races so that's definately on.

Im wondering if Kimi still has his mojo to pull out fastest laps if so Webber and Vettel are going to be taken to school

It is nor easy bet (odds shows it clearly), but I still remember races when Kimi used to wait untill last lap and then did fastest lap, he probably love it. He has a lot of fresh tires, quite good car, and good statistic: he has done fastest laps average one in three races he participated.

£5 on Schumi to get a podium at 11/8
£5 on Vettel to finish P6 or worse at 9/4 (i think), as a consolation bet if he does bad.

5 quid each way 66/1 on Alonso, (5 becoming 10 as each way)
5 quid each way 20/1 free bet on Rosberg (as above but free bet deal)

So FA or Rosberg, (or preferably both) on the podium will make me happy :)

Update after the first race:

Posted Image

Drivers Championship table is opened. Button is taking the lead, which wasn't expected.

Posted Image

WCC table and Merc have no score yet.

Posted Image

The data table, the Pie Chart snap shots and the match odds. At McLaren Button takes the lead over Hamilton in the match odds.

Posted Image

The historic 2012 WDC odds chart sees Vettel taking P1 on the strength of his AUS drive, the Red Bull race pace and the Red Bull team order policy. Alonso takes back P4 which may change at the next race. At the moment the Ferrari, Lotus and Merc drivers are in a second class from the three leaders.

Posted Image

The McLaren is still the class of the field with the Red Bull running close. Down from these two top teams there will be a fierce battle for P3 it appears. Ferrari are only rated P4 at the moment. Although Merc did not score points in AUS they are seen as a stronger force over the year.

I understand the rationale it is just that I don't agree. As time passes one of these teams is likely to gain an upper hand and win both championships.

Malaysia GP Pole, £2 on Rosberg

Look, Nico was always feeling great on this track, in 2010 he qualified second just after Webber and finished on the podium just behind Red Bulls. In 2009 he qualified sixth with Williams! As we all know, Mercedes is very good in qualifying and this track containts two long straights on which the W-Duct may be very useable. It's also Petronas' home race. So, what do you think?

I put £10 on Schumacher for pole at Sepang @ 14/1 and £10 on Rosberg @ 10/1 - fantastic value given how much the rear wing concept will aid them on the long straights there :)

Thanks for the tip!

I actually got better than 16/1 on Schumi, and 13/1 on Rosberg (Betfair) so I'm really happy.

Especially since I won more than £150 at Oz, betting on Jenson and against Vettel. :)

Not sure I'll be betting on Jenson any more though, his odds have really taken a dive.

Nice odds! I got mine on paddypower which matched my initial £10 deposit so essentially I got one of the bets free which is good :D

I can't believe the odds are so long for them - maybe the people setting the odds just don't have a clue about F1. It's not a dead cert they''ll be on pole but better than 15/1!

Im surprised Button isnt ahead of Vettel for WDC odds that McLaren and Button are suited for each other. Perhaps they are guessing Vettel will make a return to form soon. But if anything McLaren are going to be stronger in Malaysia than they were in Australia because of the highspeed corners

I've put a tenner on Mercedes being the "winning constructor" for qualy in Sepang at odds of 17/2.

edit: Saw that Schumi was 22/1 on for pole, so another Ayrton down for that.

Re: Merc pole bets I've seen nothing to suggest that Mercs fduct wing is going to give them enough advantage to bag pole. There are so many long aero corners at sepang that downforce and balance will win over top speed. Just go look at the speed traps from the q sessions where red bull where on pole last year, they were rarely in the top half.

Well well well, I should have listened to myself. Rosberg was looking good going into Q so I put £4 on him at 7/1, good bet I thought. Wrong! Britney completely choked, Schumi is owning him so far this year.

Got £3 on Jenson for the win at 3/1 which from 2nd on the grid isn't amazing odds but with the high tyre wear I'm pretty confident Jenson can out-strategise Lewis. If Lewis gets a good start though and can look after his tyres he'll do the business.

McLaren 1-2 please :)

Today
£5 on Webber outqualifying Seb at 3/1
£2.50 e/w on Vettel pole at 7/1
Profit £10

Makes up for the race in Oz when i lost £10
But its only a consolation when Seb doesn't do well, I'd rather be skint and him dominating.

Put down £4 e/w on Schumacher pole at 12/1, came away with a profit of £5.60.

Debating about spending £5 of that on a bet for the race, and leave the original £8 stake there for China...
