Hi there,

Last week I traveled to the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona to watch the last F1 wintertest before the season starts on March the 18th in Melbourne, Australia. Underneath some of my pictures I shot on Friday the 2nd:

Thank you, Edwin, but I suspect you are on the wrong branch of the Autosport forums.

The sight of cars that look like that on The Nostalgia Forum is likely to cause strokes and heart attacks throughout the realms of old TNF anoraks.

True, TW allows us just a single thread, largely maintained by Simon Arron's contributions, that relate to current F1. Perhaps these pics coulds all be transferred there?

Hopefully Simon will start the 2012 thread of motor racing madness this weekend - and yes these should be added there as they're pretty good images - despite the subject :)

Is there a Grand Prix this weekend? It's not in my Radio Times
(Sorry, wrong thread)

Now, if the constructors started inserting nice grilles into those box shapes at the front, we'd be getting somewhere...

Just when I thought that F1 cars couldn't get any uglier...

...along comes the 2012 Ferrari...

Nice photos, though, Edwin.

But it has pull rod front suspension. That's elegant...

Maybe, but that's only underneath its Quasimodo-like skin

Whilst the photography here is indeed of a decent standard, the subject matter isn't really TNF.

However, as suggested, I shall merge this with Simon Arron's soon-to-be-launched 2012 thread once it appears.

Edwin certainly shouldn't take offence at this action.

I know absolutely nothing about any of these cars, could I ask where the driver's feet go; are they up at eye-level? Serious question.

In one of the early F1 games, the 97 season version IIRC, one of the lines of commentary described it was sitting in a bathtub with your feet on the taps.

I've heard on good authority that Sebastien Vettel's secret to success is that he keeps his toenails cut very short, thus improving his forward vision...

Well, perhaps not for the moment. But they will ripen and then turn into real nostalgia...

Well, looking back in 30 years time: 'Do you remember the 2012 season with their beautiful cars?'
Sorry, no way! That's one thing I can't see happening.

I did never mention anything about "beauty".

Do you think these cars are beautiful?

(and not to give a wrong impression - I like them BECAUSE they are ugly...)

Apart from that last one; they do have their beauty in their very own way AND it is (partially) visible technology. Where with the late F1 cars you got those more and more obscure shaped things with wheels where everything is hidden under the bodywork. With anything automotive, nostalgia has a lot to do with looks, sounds or groundbreaking technological solutions for me.

To me nostalgia is about remembering of the past, the good times as well as the sad ones. If you have your own definition, that only things which meet your personal aesthetic requirements can be nostalgic, then this is also ok.
