Hoo- bloody-ray!!
MasterChef has finally finished.
Now we just might get our GP coverage actually starting at 9.30 pm rather than the 9.45/ 9.50 pm starts we have been getting as a result of over runs of MC.

I can't see how an extra 20 mins of Rust et al. is anything but a bad thing. :well:

Either way, get yourself a stream and watch Sky buddy. It's not even a contest.

I have actually had it with the Australian telecasts, they know nothing about half the stuff they talk about. Craig Baird is the worst, he talks about stuff that dosen't even make sense. Like this weekend he said how Red Bull never goes well at Spa or Monza, they won both races last year you twit. Then tonight he raises the question of team orders, what difference does it make their legal? It actually infuriates me and they can never admit when Webber makes a mistake, I have never heard a group of so called Formula 1 experts be so so biased towards a driver. I am just so sick of them, at least with Eastlake and Jones they knew their stuff and yes Eastlake was annoying sometimes but nothing compared to this. I only watch the telecast so I can watch the race live, but I can't take mush more of this dribble. Let me watch the sport that I love without these dropkicks please channel ten.

Is the bald guy, Daryl I think, still there?

Talk about a personality bypass! Is there anyone who is more boring and bland in the whole world?

Actually always liked Rusty, he tries his best but when the pundits are of a diabolical standard, what can he do?

Yer he is still there and a admire how good he was in motogp, but he really does not have a grasp on Formula 1.

I do agree with you on Greg Rust, I think he is the best out them by far. Although he is very biased towards to Webber though, but at least he knows what he is talking about most of the time. I didn't mind when it was him and Cameron McConville, they were not to bad.

They have to change it, it's embarrassing for Formula 1 in Australia to have people not know what they are talking about. They need at least one ex driver, or respected Formula 1 journalist. James Allen is terrific, but he only does a small ten minute report. They need someone in the studio.

Still dont understand why they tease us with quali on onehd then put the race on tensd, completejoke and there was a ridiculous amount of bloody ad breaks during the telecast last night! I am so sick of F1 on free to Air I really hope afoxtel put it a strong bid for F1 next time and piggyback Sky's channel.

Look, I've given up o 10/One HD/SD all together and I'm watching it on Sky instead. The ad-breaks on One were a bit long, but they were far enough that I could live with it (even if they missed out commenting on most things that happened while we were gone!). Lasts nights broadcast on Ten was absolutely terrible and full of ad-breaks, it was more like watching infomercial with f1 breaks.

I was comparing it to what I was watching on sky and it was a disgrace, the pre show, the commentary (prior to switching over) they really have to do something about it; I miss the old coverage...

Then youre obviously not paying attention. TEN network is struggling financially, F1 rates well at the moment so they put it on their main channel to get the most viewers/advertiser dollars. Its been said a hundred times already in this thread.

It did seem to be thicker with ads last night though, but it really cant be so maybe they were just badly timed and it was more noticeable.

And Darryl Beattie is simply the most boring sounding man on tv, he makes Bernie Fraser sound chirpy. Surely theres others out their with his racing credentials and a bit more media friendly?

The last few GPs probably had more ads than this one. Still far too many off-course.

I must be missing something, isn't ONE part of the 10 network and would therefore be part of the financials i.e what difference does it make?

TEN is still their 'main' channel becuase everyone (analogue/SD) can get it. So potential viewers are higher (as the existing will watch it wherever they put it)
Also, it would have a bigger audience on the lead in on TEN becuase of their typical sunday night line up compared to obscure shit on ONE (again, potential casual viewers).

By those reasons I'd bet the farm that 30 seconds on TEN cost more than 30 seconds on ONE (for comparable times of course) therefore more revenue out of what theyve already spent on the broadcast rights to F1

Ten has now fallen behind ABC to 4th position in overall ratings so they need to do anything they can to prop up TEN as opposed to ONE.

Heads have already rolled and rightly so thanks to the dreck they have put out this year - I Will Survive, The Shire, Everybody Dance Now etc - all duds.

hahaha Everybody dance now ... what did that last - 2 shows? Even 'the shire' got moved to a 'sexy new timeslot' (late night mid week).

Youd think they'd struggle fro the rights in new negotiations unless they feel they should go all in for a proven winner ...... or Gina Rinehart convinces the network to be the mining industry's mouthpiece and throws in her spare change to bail them out

I wouldnt be surprised to see Ch 7 push hard for it though.

I know. I don't know what Network Ten have been thinking of late. They really have been coming up with the most diabolical shit lately, including all the crap you mentioned, and also that Lara Bingle refuse.

As for ad breaks they really have been ridiculous. I'm happy that we still have free to air F1 coverage but the timing of some of the breaks is nothing short of horrendous as when they come back from a break a crucial pit stop has usually taken place or we have missed something else important.....

if it's 2015 - the same year the melbourne gp contract finishes - then i'm tipping a nine / foxtel joint bid a la NRL. i'm also tipping a perth consortium to soon start work on a pitch for the GP from that year on, converting one of those horse racing tracks near the CBD into a tilkedrome with night-racing capability. they'll soon realise they need more than mining to maintain their image of prosperity and attract attention, plus they're that much closer to SE asia - they'd be a great fit as part of a singapore / japan / korea / china / malaysia india 'season' at the end of the year.

There's only 5 channels and i bet 7 ain't much better. I have christ knows how many channels, at least 100+, almost all are absolute garbage involving fake reality TV, women crying, women bitching, women yelling at each other or someone being voted off something. it's absolutely atrocious. All I watch is F1, OASIS channel and maybe Dragon's Den, the rest is atrocious for the most part.

My dream is for Sky coverage to remain for years, and Foxtel pick it up in Australia and just piggy back onto Sky's coverage in the UK. Have different ads/other shows, it doesnt even have to be an F1 channel just a motorsport channel, Fox Motorsports or something would be epic. Practice, quali, pre race, race, post race, and during the week they can broadcast the sky F1 news shows/updates etc.

I made a suggestion the other day for all reality tv. They tell everyone theyve been kicked out/voted off and those that dont cry get to stay .... seriously, this crying bullshit has to stop.

there's no 'push' that i know of, just thinking out loud - but it's definitely an idea with a lot of appeal for all potential parties. F1 also fits the perth personality: outdoors, super-active, flashy, big money but no bullshit and really REALLY good at hospitality.

Yeah,Perth's a chance, lots of cashed up people and Casino's love the F-1 circus,accomodation/food is a multi-million exercise without the tables coming in to play.

they could build a road network into that development that could be adapted to be a great racetrack, complete with main stand and pits incorporated into the complex itself. and that location is absolutely perfect:

https://maps.google....ed=0CJcBEPwSMAc

mark my words, this would be a perfect fit for that city and for F1. if bernie can get in gina rinehart's ear, consider it a done deal - she's so rich even he'd be impressed. funnily enough, she's on the board of 10 / ONE!

Perth would be a great place for a night race, love to see it happen.... if only to finally have an excuse to fly to Perth!

Anyone noticed that since Ten have started putting Webber into their Sunday night promos - "Watch Webber yadda yadda yadda" etc etc - he's gone right off. :well: Put him back on One, where he belongs.

The main problem is on Ten they don't play the "Canberra Milk Kid" ads the requisite number of times for things to go well. It should be played a minimum of three times before race start and four times during the race. There's not enough pre-race show to play it enough times!

My most hated thing about Ten Coverage, I'm Australian and patriotic and everything else that comes with being Australian but what the do with Webber is just too much. The guy can do no wrong, he's the best around, no one can do better than the might Mark. There is other drivers Greg, Darryl and Craig not just the mighty Mark.

Nah, it ain't that. It all started going pear shaped back in 2010 when Swisse multivitamins started using him in their ads. Same thing happened to Ricky Ponting, Cadel Evans and apart from one or two this year pretty much all the Olympians that Swisse featured in their ads didn't do much either. It's the Swisse curse - won't catch me using their products, they are obviously rubbish... :p

it's the same with coverage of a second-tier sport (in terms of local public profile / popularity) anywhere in the world. yank coverage wouldn't shut up about a US driver if there was one on the grid. and he's been our most successful steerer by a country mile for over a quarter of a century, so worth at least some of the hype!

anyway, BF kindly reminded me that the japanese GP starts at 5pm not 4pm in most states due to daylight saving - and it's back on ONE. let the nerdgasm begin!

Well Ricky did score a century and a double century against India. So that kind of worked.

Also Webber did win more races in 2010 onwards, so maybe Swisse makes you do good....then bad...then good and then bad.

The reason is probably more to do with the remaining races being at odd times (ie not prime time sunday night) than anything else.
Sunday day/arvo and early monday morning
Abu Dhabi being the exception I think

IIRC Swisse started using Mark late in the 2010 WDC campaign, when things started to go downhill. And yeah, Ricky had a good test series against India, but similar to Webber having a bit of a resurgence earlier this season with a couple of wins, their form on the whole over the last couple of years has been disappointing...

Bingo - they did say at the start of the switch that the F1 was going to be on Ten 'for the European season' so was only going to be there while the start times worked for the main channel's programming...

ONE HD will show Qualifying.

Ten will show the race live with the preview stuff.

This will be for the Euro races. Once we hit Canada, USA and the Asian/Brazilian races it will all change. To be honest this is Ten's best chance to claw some ratings against the lack of sport on Nine and 7. Also will be great to get some new people into the sport, you guys have to think bigger picture. Why would Ten want to put in the main channel? Because of the increase in viewings for F1 and now since Ten will be focused on that, that will give more viewers which in turn will make the sport popular which in turn will make it a mainstay on the FTA channels.

Well that happened...I think.

Anyway in regards to Punter, he's still got some centuries in him. :p

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JESUS!! NO!!!!!!!!!! ANYTHING BUT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd give three limbs and an eye for Channel Seven to never get near any sport except Soccer ever again.

I'd put some serious effort into finding some way to watch Sky in better quality if the rights went anywhere near channel 7.

Im ambivalent to them, just curious as to why they bring out this reaction?
Is it AFL related? Not a fan so that could well be it.

nah, aussie rules is tailor-made for ads - they even have a red light / green light system at the ground that lets umpires know when they can restart the game after every goal (and commercial break).

i'm guessing the fuss is related to v8 supercars. i've no idea how that coverage is even worse that 10/ONE's, however.

The coverage itself I don't find too bad, but it's overly jam-packed with ads to the point where it's truly ridiculous.

Hi all, I am sorry for taking the trend off corse but I don't know where to put it, anyhow I will just add it here & delete it when the time is right.

I have a question, I am in Australia and I am going to buy the Apple "New" ipad. I have just read Formula 1 has a live app, does enyone here know how much you pay to initially download it to you ipad? and do you pay for each race or is there a fee for the whole season?

Thank you

*bashing head against wall*

It cant be, it just cant be. There is a prescribed amount of ads per hour which they cant go over. It 'feels' like a lot more during live sport becuase youre missing actual content.
