Hi everybody,

In my database of GP-results, I run into the name of Ecurie Gersac - 1947. Does anybody have any information about that, like founders, date of founding, colours of the car, etcetera etcetera?

Would be very interesting for me!

Interesting that this thread has appeared just one week after I completed the first of three planned Delage slot cars.

The Forix article lists the model that I, in my usual amateurish way, have constructed as being a D6.3L. I was under the impression that I had built a D6.70. So which is correct?

The Forix site says the D6.3L racers were based on the D6.70 production model. I have no reason to doubt this

Interesting, this French Championship. How was that called, Championnat de France? Do you have more info about other years?

BTW Ecurie Gersac, the cars were blue? The French racing blue?

French racing blue? A mythical colour - just like British racing green.

Can you tell me more about this French Championship? I mean, was that only in 1947 or when? I'd like to know, very interesting stuff!

France named a champion each year well into the '50s, if not later, as did Italy

I've no idea how the titles were decided, and they varied from year to year (eg, F1 only, and/or with F2, sports or hillclimbs included)

There are articles by Rémi Paolozzi on the last three pre-War French Championship on 8W, but I don't know of anything that complete on the post-War ones.

Again talking pre-war there were national championships in several countries. The BRDC Gold Stars and German Road Racing Championships are the best-known, but there were also similar national titles awarded in France, Switzerland, Italy and Belgium. I've also come across passing references to Hungarian and Romanian national champions but have never known how they were determined. Each national club had its own rules and - as David says - they probably varied from year to year. Some included only national events: others like the Gold Star included foreign races.

By 1938 (possibly earlier), the Italians were awarding three titles: an overall title, one for 1500cc racing and one for sports cars. Both driver and car had to be Italian, which goes a long way to explaining why Farina rather than Nuvolari won the 1938 and 1939 championships. Although as there were no Formula events in Italy in 1939, it's still a bit of a mystery: I can only assume it must be based on his performance in the final at Berne!

In my notes I have found the point system of the 1939 French championship:

10 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 plus 1 point for every finisher.

But I am not sure ehether this was retained after the war.
