Hi guys,

I have been creating racetracks for various simulators for some years, GTR,GTR2,RFACTOR,GTL etc these are given freely to the community, as i do them for my own interest.I have usually had preference for UK club tracks and have released
Aintree 50/60s
Brands 60s
Cadwell
Castle combe
Oulton 60s
Mallory 60/70s
Snetterton
Lemans 60
Lemans 70
Pergusa Early
Panorama 60s
and many others, i have at the moment been working on Rallycross tracks, and Aintree being my local track, and having marshalled at it for some years, i have begun work on the Rallyx variant. However i have little memory of the 2 British Rallycross events held in May 1980 and May 1981.The only visits made i believe.
I have drawn a map from memory of the layout but i was hoping somebody here would have either better recall or hopefully photos/maps of the event.

regards
phil

Hello Phil – welcome to TNF!

There are a number of very knowledgeable Aintree enthusiasts here, so you could get exactly what you are looking for, but have you tried one of the likely motor club organisers e.g. Liverpool Motor Club, Longton & District MC, etc…?

MCS,

thank you for your reply, i was a member of both of those clubs in the early 70s-80s.In fact i believe it was Longton and District that organised the Aintree Rallycross meeting, but i stand to be corrected on this.
I had not considered asking either clubs, as i supposed that there was no direct access to them.

kind regards
phil

Nowadays what you have outlined would be impossible with the 9 Hole Golf Course in the middle of the track. The track looks like it follows the footpath that crossed the circuit - I recall someone walking their dog along it during a sprint in the early 90s! BTW there is a gravel track crossing from the start/finish straight to Railway Straight that is located just after the "pits".

thank you stephen for your reply, you are correct regarding the footpath, i remember it well. Where the rallycross cars drove (on the present day golf course) was very very rough, as was all the infield. The infield grass was tall and all we could see was the car roofs when marshalling from the infield at Country corner.

Prior to the 9 Hole Golf Course being built there was a Formula Ford that speared off at Country into the tundra. The driver was so disorientated trying to drive out of the long grass that he had to stand up in the car to get his bearings!

The last time we had the PRS out at Aintree a suspension breakage sent the car into a huge spin into the infield near the end of the straight. Almost got a hole in one :)

I heard you were bunkered and that you got tangled in the rough!
