I thought I remembered them saying after 2010 the new layout was horrible for the show and they will revert to the old layout, that and the laps were just too long.

MUCH better! Looking forward to this track surprisingly as its one of my least favourites, maybe the fact that we didn't go there last year and its something different, AND its not the horrible long layout.

I thought there were some much better races there in the past on the old layout. Warmer temps should be good for McLaren/RB, looking forward to it!

Oh no the Borerain Grand Prix. There is 3 races i can't stand and this is one of them. 2010 was terrible, and there has never been a good grand prix here. Can't say am looking forward to it.

Pedro De La Rosa was pretty entertaining in 2005!

Edit: Also, this track, like Turkey, is one of Felipe's strongest. He loves this place, so surely he will have to be closer to Alonso.

haha maybe. The track may have been kind to Massa in the past, but that does not mean i have ever really enjoyed an entertaining race at this track. I think 06 was probs the best with the Alonso, Schumacher battle. Thats all i can really remember maybe DRS and new tyres will help make it the best grand prix held here to date. I hope so

I'm intrigued by what happens here, both on and off the track.

Theres been so much talk about the issues in Bahrain that i'm interested in some people actually going there and telling us exactly what is going on.

The original Bahrain layout isn't too bad either, sure the place as all the atmosphere of a paper cup but the actual layout is ok and DRS should work well here with three decent straights.

I really hope they don't put the DRS zone on the main straight as it's already a good overtaking spot. It'd be interesting if they put it on the final straight that leads to the final corner as it's fairly long and even if it doesn't lead to an overtake it'd get them closer for the home straight.

I didn't mind the '09 race, should be good to get a race in with no rain and solid temps, with the field so close track variability could throw up anything!

I would normally say that this track is all about power/straight line speed and traction but it is increasingly looking like tyre management is going to be the dominant feature for every race.

Track temperature could easily reach 55 deg C. Avoiding sheer thermal degradation of the rears on the option (soft) is going to be a big challenge for everyone.

The track may well be extremely dusty/dirty as I'm sure not much has taken place at the track since F1 was there in 2010 correct? If F1 was cancelled last year surely no major motorsport events would have made the trip to Bahrain? Sand will play a big part too and if Vettel still has a nervous rear end it might negate the apparent advantage Red Bull have of tyre management? Consistent car will be required from my opinion. McLaren have this, but that long straight will play into Mercedes hands, althought not really similar to Shanghai, I think Mercedes will be strong here, especially in qualifying. 2 long straights and some long sweeping corners

Another possible one (If they go 2 zones) could be the straight after turn 10, seems quite reminiscent of the DRS zone for Silverstone last year.

Is that after the slow hairpin? That section, hairpin to straight reminds me ALOT of Abu Dahbi without the chicane at the end. Wouldn't be surprised to see the DRS zone there.

On a lighter note, Heidfeld's pass on Alonso in Bahrain 2007 was one of my all-time favourites.

I also think the Brakes will be a main factor. Keeping the brakes cool, and also seeing how well a car can ride the bumps in sector 1.

Also, can you guys foresee a US 05 or not as bad GB 11 type controversy this weekend?

Sort of think Lotus will be strong here, very strong, especially Kimi, the Lotus is easy on its tyres and is quick in a straight line. I think Red Bull will be strong also but if they don't qualify at the front they will be compromised by their lack of straight line speed. The McLaren is, well, its good everywhere and in all conditions so I expect them at the front regardless of what happens.

Have they raced Pirellis here? no race last year, isn't this the first time... into the unknown, Malaysia had similar temperatures but high humidity, what's it going to be like in Bahrain?

Is it confirmed Bernie will attend? he sort of dodged a bullet when Sky asked him saying it was a 'stupid question', but he still didn't answer it...which I thought was strange of him. A stern 'yes' would be Bernie's normal reaction followed by his insults.

The track doesn't excite me at all. And to think that everything will be reduced to tyre management isn't that great either.
I expect another Mercedes pole but a much closer race if McLaren and Red Bull don't drop the ball through the weekend.

Actually I have a close friend that's high up in your avatar's parent company's corporate structure and he's going along with a number of his colleagues. Though he'll probably stay in Dubai till Friday then fly to Bahrain Saturday morning. I have a standing invite to go but ... no time to.

We'll see, but you have to know:

He used to arrive to races on the weekend, just for the main events, not on Mondays.

And leaves the track even before the race ends.

I gave to say it is not one of my favourites but I would agree with you about T10. One of the hardest corners on the calendar.

I like it too. It was one of the few the few tracks I mastered on the F1 2006 psp game

They should revamp and reprofile the circuit to something faster. And race at night. Abu Dhabi has dwarfed it and everything else that has happened has made it the ugly duck on the calendar.

So now they need to do something to create an illusion of a new Bahrain and new circuit. The first thing, I guess, would be to make it a night race to make it seem it not stuck in the middle of a nowhere desert with protesters. The second would be to make it faster so it could boast on how fast and fantastic it is.

Bernie doesn't mind night races in that part of the world, does he?

There is plenty of room behind turns 10 and 11 where the alternate layout goes by.

With the knew rules it should be quite a good race i reckon, although with the hot temperatures it will ultimately come down to a tyre saving excersize, but that's the Formula 1 we have today so i'll try to enjoy it.
