Motor sport magazine podcast has a fascinating interview with Gordon Murray this month. I strongly recommend a listen.

I love the Motorsport magazine podcasts but yeah this one with Gordon Murray is excellent

His iStream manufacturing process sounds pretty interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing the cars that are currently underway who will be using it.

I also need to find that article he did for them about what type of F1 car would he design if he had a clean slate...

EDIT: Found it :)

The story of how they went to and conquered Le Mans on a £750k ish budget and 9 hours in the wind tunnel was great. As he said, they missed a trick not driving it there and back.

His views on the Veyron were amusing.

Another great Motorsport podcast.

Oooo - good find.  Interesting how close it looks to the Gran Turismo Red Bull concept.

HIs 'real' F1 suggestions are pretty good.

I don't have a problem with radios and can't think of any objections to telemetry. But maybe some of the adjustability of the cars mid-race need to be reigned in.

Get rid of the clutch adjustment/multi-stage clutch paddles for a start. Let them figure out how to do a standing start on their own. It used to be great to watch.

Good show. Regarding Danica, the thing that gets to me is when racing media hypes her as "first woman to do [insert mediocre achievement here]" when she hasn't been the first woman to do anything other than sit on pole for the 500, and even that was suspicious. It's not hard to see why she's pushed the way she is, more viewers is more viewers, but it gets tiring to hear whatever she's doing covered like she's breaking a new path for women into NASCAR, just like she was supposedly this great trail blazer into IndyCar. If by "new path into NASCAR" they mean "taking a slightly different path than the 25 other women who raced in NASCAR, some of them 60 years before Danica" then I guess they have a point. I don't blame her for any bimbo-type shit either, you only live once and you gotta get paid.

As far as the discussion on slurs I've always felt that we give those words that power, and you simplify things too much if you say "this word is really really evil and you shouldn't be allowed to say it". What does that solve? Things weren't fine and dandy for gay people until someone invented the word faggot and it all went to shit, there's been bigotry and homophobia and intolerant nonsense going on forever and the words are just a byproduct of that. It's just an easy way for people to pretend they're helping fight homophobia by attacking someone using words like that, because attacking the problem itself and figuring out where the actual genuine hatred comes from is omg really hard guys. It's like buying a pink Seahawks jersey and pretending you're saving people from breast cancer. Lenny Bruce had it figured out in the 50s: if you say it over and over again it loses all it's power and you strip hateful words of their ability to hurt someone. Look at a site like 4chan: people call each other terrible shit on there all day long, but it doesn't actually mean anything. It's just background noise at that point. You can call it crass or edgy or whatever you want, but as long as you try to pretend certain combinations of letters and certain sounds you can make with your mouth have a mystical power above all other things you can say or write, you're not going to change anything. You're just going to keep yourself from focussing on the real problem, which is that there are actual racists and homophobes out there who do real damage to their fellow man, and that bickering over whether it's okay to say fag or not isn't solving that problem. But I'm a straight white guy, so what do I know.

They are very good, and I think I've listened to their season review podcasts at least 3 or 4 times each, very funny, also recommend them

Edit: Also, nothing beats their pronunciation of Romain Grosjean

The Motorsport mag podcasts are brilliant. A bit up and down in terms of guests and quality but my favourite guests are always Murray Walker and Pat Symmonds. Murray seems to relax a bit in the company of friends and has great stories and lifts Nigel and co to another level, and Pat always seems to have some technical or sporting insights into F1 that I had not considered.

How this ever got on the recommended podcast list on Autosport is beyond me as it thinks booing is great, promotes fan violence and hooliganism, mocks ex champion Alan Jones (at 67) for being fat (I'd like to see you all), and generally speaks with no insights into anything and is littered with teen Hollywood movie references and poo jokes.

It's like teen American wrestling fans doing an F1 podcast. Next they'll be promoting how F1 drivers should have 'show offs' (or whatever it's called in WWE speak) before races and bash each other. I can hear it now: "That would be awesome!!"

So in other words, they said fans can do what they want, they called a fat guy fat (but hey, he's only 67, how can anyone expect him to know how to eat right), and they shared opinions on a show about opinions on a medium designed so people can share opinions.

And you know what I liked best? You didn't just stop at constructive criticism (or even start at it), but skipped right past it to bitch about things they didn't actually do, with a passing shit on the WWE for no apparent reason, which is a beloved part of millions of people's lives quite the same as F1 is.

This is the recommended podcast thread at Autosport, one of the most respected F1 sites in the world.

Now a podcast is recommended that applauds unsporting behavior, promotes violence and bashes ex champions for no good reason. This doesn't outrage you, but criticism of it does?

the gist of our podcast is that we're american sports fans who also follow f1. we make it pretty clear that we may diverge into other topics and yes, we treat most things (including alan jones's portliness) with a healthy dose of irreverence. not everyone's cup of tea perhaps, but that's our angle.

anyway, thanks for listening!

I take issue with two of your podcasts. As a Black Tennessean you all took too much pleasure in talking about meth and saying the n-word a few podcasts ago...

I was not really offended given the context. Love the show and y'all do good work. Can I get a shout out?

Is this a podcast recommendation thread or a place for one particular podcast to keep advertising its every move???

It defeats the point recommending your own product.......

Can the more prolific posters of a certain podcast go away and create their own dedicated thread to it?

One I've not seen mentioned, but I enjoy semi-regularly is 'Trackside with Curt Cavin & Kevin lee'. 2hrs of weekly IndyCar chatter.

During the week or so leading up to the 500, they broadcast nearly everyday and I went along to their live show/benefit (Carb Night Burger Bash) when i went out to the race last year. Great fun.

No...I clearly have no ability to use the scroll wheel on my mouse.....

The point is this is a thread to recommend podcasts, not have them overwhelmed by endless posts about one particular one. In my opinion i think it's akin to hijacking a thread and is rude. The odd post here and there is fine, all things in moderation etc.

We don't make a point of putting up a link to every single episode other podcasts offer. It's pretty much taken as a given people keep producing new podcasts. I could easily spam this thread with links every week to my preferred podcasts, but that would dilute the thread and is unfair on others.

This thread has been around two years now and receives less than 2 posts a week. If there is some spamming going on in here, it is the most subtle of spamming.

If it was an issue, I have no doubt that the moderation staff would have put a halt to it.

I'm not really sure what is going on with Windsor's _The Racer's Edge_...?  It seems like he/they have decided to go with a Youtube only format, and Edd Straw?  The "F1 Global Community" thing is baffling as well, since it seems to not actually exist?

James Allen's podcast has been missing from Itunes for awhile as well?  Autosport not since January....?

Kudos though, to the Motorsport "subscribe now and get a free 1.44mb floppy" podcast and the very excellent Emanuelle Pirro interview this week....

Which is what I am going to do.

Having the release of each new podcast in a series 'advertised' here breaches our rules on spamming anyway.  If you like it, and want to subscribe, then you will have already done so.  I should say that I was asked whether it was OK to post these podcasts and I agreed, so this was not being done without our knowledge, indeed it was done with our blessing.  However in retrospect it does subvert the purpose of the thread which is peer to peer recommendation and we agree that it should now stop.

If you produce a podcast please feel free to link to it in your signature or mention it in your avatar etc, Posters can feel free to mention highlights in the various podcasts out there, ibncluding F1 and Done.

Any questions or areas of uncertainty, please PM me.

Midweek Motorsport was a bit off this week, eh? I agree that there are a thousand good ways to replace grid girls (fans, kids and their parents, sponsor-nominated people, etc.) but to have four men who don't know the meaning of the word "misogynist" use it incorrectly 400 times while trying to pretend having pretty girls on the grid to hold signs for the cars to stop at is suddenly a problem was a bit strange.

I dunno, I thought they were being quite reasonable. If the show was a bit flat then I guess it's a hangover from the coverage from Silverstone this weekend, which was fabulous.

They were reasonable to think it's a stupid old tradition that has no real place in racing, and that there's a thousand better ways to do that sort of thing. That's fine and I agree with that. It's bullshit, so get rid of it. But to make out like there's a bunch of evil men in suits forcing bikini babes out into the cold of a rainy racetrack at gunpoint was a bit much. I agree it's an old tradition that makes no sense, so bin it. But let's just skip the whole ain't-men-evil white knighting. If there are any pretty girls angry that they are making an easy living based on their beauty, I'd be happy to hear from them. I'd love to see the contract that says "We'll kill your family if you don't parade your ass around at the Monaco GP". I was under the impression this was entirely optional and these girls are more than welcome to stack shelves at a grocery store for $7/hour if they want to, but apparently not. If you want to prove grid girls are more than just beautiful puppets, have them do something that proves they're more than just beautiful puppets. If the solution is just "put more clothes on them", you're ignoring the real problem and saying you don't really give a shit whether it's sexist or not, you just don't want to feel like a perve. These are the same kinds of people that would say it's great and empowering if a woman racer had a grid boy.

Some might say it's demeaning to women to have them wearing swimsuits in the paddock. I say it's deameaning to disregard an entire gender as completely incapable of making their own decisions and reducing them to the intellectual level of a five year old who can't make choices for themselves.

I assume they wore the uniform they were given. It was really cold and windy that day, I'm not surprised some of them were suffering. I think their lack of preparation and the apparent lack of care given to them by their employers was a jumping-off point for the "Why do we need them" discussion, rather than the solution.

Think the grid kittens idea is a winner, although I don't know how you'd round them up when the five minute board comes out.
