Thank god for pre-season testing because all the teams want the drivers to be as comfortable as they can and do good high and low fuel runs.

Why has no-one signed Felix de Costa?

I got a feeling Toro Rosso may sign him as the reserve driver and put him in 1st Practice sessions but Luiz Razia has been in the Toro Rosso pits this weekend.

Why has no-one signed Felix de Costa?

Probably because talent isn't important as money to some teams, he will make into F1 in the future though

It's too soon in my opinion, let's see if he can put a championship season together. Also, it's too soon to get rid of either STR driver.

Razia is not a Red Bull driver, nor will he be anyone's F1 driver, de Costa is. We know how this works by now people, Toro Rosso only signs Red Bull junior drivers when they're ready or the existing pair are not adequate.

So how come he's at the pits in Sao Paulo with the Toro Rosso team? He did do the Abu Dhabi test with them.

Petrov hasn't ruled himself out of Caterham just yet.

Link

According to this article the funding he needs hinges on whether his manager can persuade Russian Helicopters to sponsor him for another year. My take on the situation is that previous stories of money-worries are not as terminal as they seemed back in September but it still seems like it can easily go either way. :|

That's good news.
Is Kevin Magnussen under McLaren's wings now?

Edit - Yes, he is. :)

To do that would be to waste him - If he, next season, has rubbish mechanics and he doesn't win, that will be him finished and not his fault. No-one waited for Button to have a championship season, nor Alonso IIRC. De Costa has driven in two series this year and has won in both, he obviously has no trouble adapting to new cars, he is clearly simpatico - I would snap him up in a minute. I have my doubts about Guittierez for the long term, he may be a one season driver.

Because he has already signed with Red Bull, and Red Bull don't want to rush him whilst also giving a fairer shot to Ricciardo and Vergne.

I think it's a good decision for him and for all parts.

No chance. Van der Garde looks set to partner Pic next year. Contract is all but signed. He's got a lot more backing than Petrov anyway.

Don't understimate him. He was mighty in Formula BMW back in 2008, though that is four years ago. I believe he was even more impressive than Vettel was in Formula BMW.

I'm surprised by that, I'd much rather see Razia/Bianchi/Alguersuari with Force India than Adrian Sutil. Sutil back with Force India would be a waste of a seat.

Here's a thought, why don't Senna and Razia's sponsors put their money together and buy HRT becoming Brasilia Hispania Racing  .

No way, Razia doesn't have this money.
As a side note I've read today that Bruno was offered 5 millions from AshleyMadison.com . But he'd have to wear a Pink helmet.

Am I the only one wondering what has happened to Formula 1? Many talented drivers are kicked out of F1 to make space for drivers who just buy their seats. I'd like this to be a pinnacle of racing where the best teams and fastest drivers battle to see how takes the crown. Now half of the grid is filled with mediocre drivers who are there just because they have lots of money. Is this really the direction where this sport is going?

You should have been around in the 80's. Sometimes seemed like half the grid was made up of marginally-talented but extremely well heeled Italians :p

First of all, waste of a seat is Di Resta... He is on his way to loose an internal team battle yet again!

I'd take that Razia figure with a massive pinch of salt, where on earth would he get that sort of figure from? Obviously he has to be well backed to have bought his test drives for the past few years, but that sounds too inflated to me. I can't believe that the likes of Marussia wouldn't bite his arm off for that sort of deal.

To do that would be to waste him - If he, next season, has rubbish mechanics and he doesn't win, that will be him finished and not his fault. I have my doubts about Guittierez for the long term, he may be a one season driver.

Only one of those series was a direct F1 feeder, and he only did half a year in that one. GP3 is a much bigger jump. It's refreshing that for once Red Bull aren't rushing someone up the ranks, he doesn't need to be in F1 next year. And it's not like another team can sign him anyway, he's contracted to Red Bull.

He'll most likely stick with the team he's with, and considering he's already taken 4 wins with them (one admittedly due to Magnussen's misfortune) then the rubbish mechanics excuse won't fly. A full season with the pressure of championship expectation will show Red Bull and himself what he's made of, he arguably hasn't had that for a few years now so it will be good for him in the long run.

Agreed. If Razia had that sort of budget he would be signed already. He's got enough money to stick around in GP2 and buy a couple of test drives, and some of those he got from Caterham because he was their GP2 driver.

Edit: Woop 4000 posts. How on earth have I posted that much twaddle? :D

F1 - Lotus yet to take Grosjean ’decision’ for 2013 - Lopez

The buzz in the Interlagos paddock has been that Lotus is pursuing a high-profile figure for 2013, just as it did when it brought Raikkonen back from a rallying sabbatical this season.

One name mentioned a few times has been Robert Kubica’s, even though the talented Pole is saying openly that his injuries are still preventing him from driving a single seater.

And Lopez told Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport: "There is no ’Kimi’ on the market right n

the only ' high profile figure ' with bucks IMO is Adrian Sutil , but seeing his past history with Lopez, i doubt it. and Kubica is just not ready , but strangest things have happened in the past ... so let's see (although i'd love to see either kovi or koba in Grosjeans seat ... he's damn fast, but not good enough to be in 2nd lotus seat IMHO)

No, Schumacher said to the Bild am Sonntag today: "I won't drive F1 anymore. And neither NASCAR nor IndyCar."
But I thought I read, that Lotus won't kick Grosjean. So this piece of news is new to me.

Not really, I think.

On the other hand, I remember that HRT said at some point of the 2010 that they were going to hire and experienced driver for a 3rd driver role who was going to be a benchmark for their 2 rookies (Senna and Chandhok) and who would help them to develop the car during friday runnings.

As it turned out later, this experienced benchmark was Sakon Yamamoto.

Rumours are rumours and they tend to be exaggerated.
