Barrichello to Caterham

Not gonna happend, Caterham needs money. Caterham seat is between Van Der Garde,Petrov and Heikki...and almost certain it will be Van Der Garde who gets the seat.

F1 - Lotus yet to take Grosjean ’decision’ for 2013 - Lopez

any idea who this ''high profile figure'' might be???

Kobayashi would be most logical.

Grosjean proved again this weekend he is too immature.

I don't think Rubens would be so desperate in search for F1 seat.

He was on British TV yesterday and said he would jump at the chance if a seat were available somewhere.

Why are fans such arrogant knobs sometimes? If you're already in F1, you'll likely want the best seat available. If you're not in F1, you'll likely want any seat available. How self-absorbed would you have to be to sit on the sidelines because you turned down a ride at any F1 team, and who cares what team it is? Barrichello is not Hulkenberg, with 15 years of F1 racing available ahead of him, who could afford to take a year off.

Let's say Rubens joins Caterham. Four races into the year, an accident sidelines one of the top drivers for the year. The team don't believe the reserve driver is up to the task, so they buy Rubens' contract from Caterham and bam, he's fighting for wins again. We see stranger things than that happen each and every single season, so I don't really think it's a matter of being "desperate" or not. There are 24 people in the room of F1 Drivers. You want to be in that room, not out of it, at any cost.

I doubt that Heikki still has a chance. And I'm pretty sure that Luiz Razia also has a bige chance, and Bruno Senna as well.

Must be Kubica??

It is Kubica yes. But Lopez said that's unlikely and there isn't another driver of Kimi's calibre available. Though I would be happy with an all Finnish line up with Kimi and Heikki.

This. I like Heikki, but he's been upstaged by Petrov this year and has shown no real reason why he deserves a promotion to a bigger team. Kimi/Kamui for Lotus next year hopefully

What Heikki do to deserve another chance? He was a McLaren & Renault driver in the past. It didn't work out there.

But keep this topic on the silly season and not driver discussions.

I think so too. Heikki didn't show his performance against Petrov and both of them have been in Enstone for 2 years.
Kamui was good for Lotus not considering how much he bring from his sponsor.

Webber?

He has a contract, but RB may be inclined to let him go (unhappy with his end to the season) and Webber himself may search for a new challenge even if the car is likely to be worse.

yes GP2 champions suck no matter what. Just look at history.

2005...this guy nearly couldn't handle a grandfather
2006...damn this guy is so crashprone...he let himself put out of the race today
2007...another unnecessary guy in a rolling roadblock
2009...see this guy cannot win in a FI and takes people like the great Lewis out
2010/11 no brainers....will never have any success....oh wait

;)

dont you think that drivers from inferior series are a bit weaker nowdays? and especially they dont need to be top guys if they have backing.
I believe Esteban will be new Grosjean next season with even more brain fades. (I'm aware that he is not champion but still).

Drivers liek Hamilton or Rosberg were taken by F1 teams coz they were brilliant and no one cared about cash.

No, Gutiérrez and Calado were in the Lotus-lookalikes (at Lotus GP), Valsecchi was in the Renault R30-lookalike at Boullier's old team DAMS.

I also believe Grosjean has been given more than enough chances. I'm not doubting his speed but if he still bins it every second race at his level of experience then we have no reason to believe that will change.

Rumours in the paddock today link D'Ambrosio with the 2nd Lotus seat. He is regarded more mature than Grosjean to rank up the 2013 points alongside Kimi.

And hammering the wall in the last few laps of the season isn't helping... I seriously consider that FI ditches him for Alg.

Petrov maybe just paid his bill with getting 10m of Bernie's money to the team.
I don't expect Koboyashi to remain, unless he is picked up by Lotus or FI.
Grosjean will probably stay, though I don't like his driving.

Barrichello would fit the 'high profile' tag, but the Webber suggestion might be more realistic: Webber to Lotus, Vergne or Ricciardo to Red Bull, da Costa to Toro Rosso?

There was a rumour some time ago that Alguersuari might be the one to join Lotus. He apparently works with their fitness trainer and was in contention for a seat here in 2012 (before the STR driver change was announced and after Lotus announced their line-up). Could it be that he is the high-profile driver everyone is talking about?

In that case, I predict:

Jaime to Lotus
Sutil to FI

Not sure about the other FI seat.

Teams will always say positive things in public about the drivers they test. Valsecchi may have impressed them in any case, but they certainly wouldn't say so if he hadn't!

I thought Kobayashi's recent comment about it being easier to find a top seat for 2014 - perhaps he will be a top team's third driver for 2013? Or perhaps Honda will return in 2014? :smoking:

I don't think Alguersuari would be considered high profile by F1 or Lotus standards. That sounds more like a GP winner to me.

In any case, the remaining seats will probably be filled/confirmed soon as the year is almost over and there are no more races to get further data on driver performance.

I wonder if anything has changed in the Caterham situation regarding pay-drivers. Pic brings Total sponsorship, of course, but now that Caterham has secured 10th in the WCC, and subsequently a stash of dough from Bernie, wouldn't they want to keep Kovalainen? Or perhaps attract a driver that not necessarily brings cash, e.g. Di Resta or Kobayashi?

I know, but can you name anyone who is high-profile and hasn't got a contract for 2013? The only three race winners without a contract for 2013 who are looking for a place in F1 are Barrichello, Kovalainen and Maldonado. It would be great to see Kubica come back, but he is apparently not ready yet. So, unless, it's someone completely unexpected (like Montoya, for example), I still see Alguersuari as the best candidate.
