Sutil is the safe bet. He knows the team, the team knows him and he has shown to be a match for diResta. If you look at the other midfield teams having 2 solid drivers could be a huge advantage.

Especially after seeing Force India finish the season on a high, regulations hardly changing in 2013. They probably want a solid start and Sutil knows how to drive a Force India car.

If Force India really valued Sutil that much they wouldn't of dropped him last year.

Rubbish. Hülkenberg had a clause in his contract that guaranteed him a race seat in 2012. Di Resta had to stay at Force India because of their Mercedes engines. Also, Sutil had his nightclub incident, which made Force India have doubts.

If none of the above was the case, Sutil would have stayed for sure.

I've never seen any reports that the Merc deal has a clause regarding Di Resta.

Going to want to source all that then?

Di Resta reputedly came with Mercedes KERS not engines, which Force India could of brought themselves, and I haven't seen anything stating Hulkenberg had to drive there. Besides, even your claims are true, as Hulkenberg brought nothing bar his talent, Force India did not have to sign a contract guaranting him a seat if they wanted Sutil.

After the night club incident and considering the fact that diResta had a contract and Hulk was rumoured to at least have had an option for the seat, it was the logical choice. Interestingly though the team and Sutil seemd to have stayed in touch over the whole 2012 season. Not the most inspiring choice for sure, but a safe choice considering the other drivers rumoured to be looking for this seat.

Fisichella-pace. Solid, not spectacular.

When did the 'Silly Season' thread morph into the 'Adrian Sutil' thread ?
The article has quotes from Mallya which are at least a month old, so it's hardly news.

Not the most inspiring choice for sure, but a safe choice considering the other drivers rumoured to be looking for this seat.

Considering by March 2013 he wouldn't have raced for around eighteen months and wouldn't be available for least four races (permit/visa issues), I don't see how he is a safe choice.

Di Resta brings experience, so give Bianchi a try imo. Force India don't need two solid drivers, they need one and a special driver like Hulkenberg, who in only one season showed more promise than Sutil did in four for Force India. Let's be honest here, if Sutil has another chance next year with Force India it's because Mallya has a hard-on for him and knows he's not good enough to be considered for another team.

Kobayashi is faster/better than Sutil and available for nothing. ;)

I don't think KOB is better/faster than Sutil and Sutil should have some more money (heard something about 10 Million $). So clearly the better choice (my opinion)

Fair point, I don't know that for a certainty. But other athletes in other sporting disciplines have been turned down visas to USA and Canada based on their previous convictions. The most recent I can think of is Joey Barton was denied to go on a pre-season tour of USA last year. Other pundits like Joe Saward have highlighted the likely problems he could face obtaining visas in some countries. So I can't say for a certainty, but it seems likely there would be an issue.

Sutil was superb in his last 2 seasons

So a best finish of 5th place in 2010 and 6th place in 2011 rates as 'superb'? As di Resta equalled that 6th place finish in 2011 and managed a 4th place this year, that must make him, what, 'mega-superb'?

We seen what Sutil can do and it isn't anything very impressive. Even without the nightclub business, he deserved to lose his seat. Not good enough for F1.

Unfair comparison. 2011 was all about Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari. 2012 was a season where every team had a shot at the podium.

Well in his last two seasons he finished miles ahead of Kobayashi. So why is everybody rooting for Kobayashi then? If Sutil isn't good enough, well then Kobayashi certainly isn't either.

This is what you call fair?
It was a miracle that Sauber F1 team survived at all in 2010. And in 2011 FIA's backtracking over blown diffuser ban costs them more than a second per lap.

Looks like Sutil is the favourite for the seat ahead of Jules Bianchi because of his 'inexperience'. Can anyone explain to me what was the point in Bianchi doing the Practice sessions?

Team principals had him at P8 at the end of 2011. He was the only driver in that top 10 list, who didn't get a drive for 2012. (Admittedly, it was also one of the few lists who ranked him behind Di Resta, but apparently they were both seen as very good drivers.)

http://www.autosport...rt.php/id/96751

So I think the Sutil rumours make sense - especially after they now had a year to possibly clear all the legal hurdles. Maybe, they want to wait one more year before bringing in Bianchi such that we would get a clear shootout of Di Resta vs. Sutil next year.

Grosjeanilla on kieltämättä lahjoja.

Google Translate, some cleaning-up:

Grosjean is undeniably gifted. It is about which direction is required to give another chance to prove that he has learned.

Lotus is reportedly making a big deal with Honeywell. My guess is that if this is the case, Grosjean will be confirmed soon after.

Kobayashi (rookie season) 32 - 12 by teammates

Sutil 47 - 21 by Luizzi (who got kicked out of HRT)

ergo, FI > Sauber in 2010.

Koba 30 - 14 by Perez

Sutil 42 - 27 by di Resta

ergo, FI > Sauber in 2011.

in 2012, di Resta 46 << 63 by Hulkenberg

The measure of Kobayashi will come if Perez proves to be a winner off the bat in the mclaren.

Lotus was always an overly optimistic long shot, but all hope is not lost yet as hopefully Force India make the right decision and sign him rather than settle for the mediocrity of Sutil.

Yeah, Joe Saward seems to think Petrov is favourite for the seat as he brings around $10 million in sponsors and $10 million (or so) from his finish in Brazil. GvdG only seemed to be an option when Caterham would lose a place and consequently his sponsorship would help that deficit. Giedo seems like a nice bloke, but I can't imagine Caterham would now risk having a completely new line-up for next year.

There is still Marussia seat available and Petrov is having conversations with them as well as with Caterham.
