So we had The Pope retiring, meteor showers hitting Russia and an asteroid going passed Earth. It's a sign Force India! God is pissed off!

Trulli better than Sutil? I got a different impression then again I stopped watching f1 for 10 years when Trulli had been Frentzens Teammate, but I know what a "Trulli-Train" is....

Frentzen was a better driver than Trulli and yet he did get fired...

Then again .... it would be funny to see both of them back.... Trulli & Sutil the eternal love relationship

Trulli comfortably beat Frentzen during their seasons, and was always better driver :)

Sutil and Bianchi testing this week.

Don't understand why it is so difficult for them to select 2nd driver, whatever the criteria may be they had enough time till now to finalize.

Is it so neck and neck that they need on track shootout now, REALLY? What will happen if any of them crash in the anxiety to set fastest lap!!

Don't remember any team having one driver going into the second test. This is getting very silly from Force India.

I don't see how a single test is going to tell them anything new.

Frankly speaking, I am already sick of all the questions surrounding FI's 2nd seat. Just auction off the seat already!

There was only one season they completed together and that year HHF beat Jarno 11-6 ;)

Sutil being a naughty boy with a glass is why he was out. Had Brawn not bought Honda it likely would have been a year off for Button, too. A tough '07 and '08 had made his great run in '04 - '06 a distant memory.

Button had at least one offer for a 2009 seat (Renault alongside Alonso) had the Brackley-based team not got their car on the grid.

Financially it probably would have been better to ensure his recently signed Honda contract was honoured, but he was willing to forgo that for the drive with Brawn, and if that didn't work out likely would have done the same for another decent looking seat.

They're probably trying to squeeze more money out of Bianchi's backers (or Sutil's) and threatening to give the drive to the other guy if they don't raise their bid...

also Frentzen won 1999 in Monza and Magny Cours for Jordan... he was 2nd in drivers championship one year with Williams... and 3rd 1999 in Jordan, right behind Irvine & Häkkinnen and infront of DC, while Damon Hill in the same car only ranked 12th

And that is the differnece between Button and Sutil. Button has always had teams seeking his services, even resulting in court cases over his contract, Sutil has never had anyone but FI showing any interest at all. It seems that the team principals have a pretty clear idea which of the two they prefer. And I don't think Button has ever needed to bring budget to secure a seat....

i have one wild guess, the second seat at FI would be all season contest between sutil and bianchi or maybe some cashy driver

FI is severely cash strapped, i fear that it could end as HRT project in near future

I guess you haven't followed F1 that long or haven't seen Trulli when he was at his best. I've been following F1 since 1984 (when I was just 8) and consider him to be one of the quickest drivers I ever saw in F1. When he just had entered F1, as a F3 champion and former world karting champion, many regarded him as a future F1 world champion, somehow he never really managed to maximize on his talent, he never really had the car to do that but was always quick.

For sure.

Trulli was rapid on qualifying laps. He was more inconsistent in race trim but he probably is one of the better "raw pace" drivers over a flying lap in the past several years. Remember in '04 he was beating Alonso for the first half of the season.

I always liked Jarno.

It's been several posts since I gave my opinion of Sutil. And I still haven't been convinced he deserves a seat back on the F1 grid.

Kobayashi has more podiums and he isn't on the grid. ;)

At least Kobayashi may prove to be around equal to Perez, and if Perez is a WDC contender...

Nonsense. KK is not even close to Perez. I expect Perez will prove that this season.

Sutil did get railroaded out after the glassing incident - perhaps rightly so, but it is only fair to give him the shot he had back. I think he will have learned his lesson.

:rotfl: KK outclassed Perez in 2011 and in 2012 when the tyres weren't playing up. Perez is a special driver, he is fast but comes with that tyre conservation skill. Not convinced he is better than Koba by any means once tyres are normal.

As for Sutil. He had longer to show his hand and he still turned up with much less than Kobayashi. Fisi scored a pole and podium, Sutil didn't. He had a shot in Italy one year and blew it. Total joke for Sutil to be given a 2nd chance while the same people write off Kobayashi for being near equal to Perez.

At least Bianchi might get to a greater height.

On the Sutil/Button thing, Adrian had his some high points but JB, every now and again, had moments that hinted at him being extremely talented, the one that always sticks in my mind (yet it seems nobody else remembers) is the Nurburgring 2007, in the rain JB went from P17 to P4 by the end of the second lap, if Vettel or Hamilton or Alonso had of done that it would of been noticed, but because JB isn't quite in their league it gets ignored.

Some hint at having the talent capable of being a top driver, other's just have a good race every now and again.

Ummm...didn't Marcus Winkelhock go from last to first by 33 seconds in the space of 4 laps in that race?? Torrential rain anyone??

For those trying to compare Sutil's career to Button's early career, the caveat I would add is this... whatever Jenson was doing at the time, there was always the hope and expectation that he was capable of more. I have never heard Sutil talked about in the same way. He found his level when Force India became a consistent points-scoring team from 2010 onwards, and even then he couldn't shake off silly mistakes and off-days.

Button became World Champion like many thought he would. Sutil has spent a year out doing absolutely nothing, because he couldn't get a drive in F1 or anywhere else.

What a load of tosh, Button became world champion because of the BGP001. Button's career could very easily have gone south after Honda pulled out in 2008 and he'd have been in the same place as Sutil is now. When has Sutil been in a car that was anything other than midfield??

2007, 2008, early 2009. His car was no midfielder then. It was a clear backmarker.

All right, let's quit comparing Sutil to anyone but Bianchi, shall we? Those two are in contention for the Force India seat, while Button, Trulli, Frentzen et al. are obviously not.

Thank you.

Sutil for 2013 and Bianchi replacing the slower FI driver in 2014 would be a logical choice in my opinion. I think the long delay is just to squeeze out a the last bit of money of either driver for their (pre-)contracts.

Ferrari is pressuring them to get Bianchi into the seat because they need an obedient no. 2 driver for 2014. Sutil is obviously the right choice in any real race fan's mind.

Wut. Why would Ferrari run Bianchi after 1 year if 2 weren't good enough for Perez?

Why are people of this belief that Ferrari won't risk upsetting Alonso by signing any top 10 driver? Lewis, Kimi and Vettel, fair enough, but Ferrari isn't going to sign a rookie just so Alonso won't cry himself.

After Perez left the Ferrari Young Driver Academy, Bianchi is pretty much the only driver that could give some short-term results. If he doesn't pan out they might as well close the academy.

It's Portuguese. It says, there are rumours in the paddock that say Razzia might be in his way out of Marussia. The rumours were fuelled by the sudden change for the tests: it's going to be Chilton the one running the 4 days.

The article also speculates there could be 2 reasons for Razzia to leave:

1. The money of his sponsors has not arrived to Marussia's bank account
2. The car is so bad that Razzia thinks it would be bad for his career to stay and thinks doing GP2 is better for him

Razia is not leaving Marussia, thats simple brazilian press panic, always trying to be ahead of itself. Luiz himself told another brazilian page they gave the full week so Chilton could do more long runs, something the british didnt manage in his first week of practice. Razia diz long runs in Jerez and, now, should get more days in the last week of tests. Simple as that. Razia would come back tomorrow to the car, but since its will probably rain, team decided to give Chilton wet time, since it wouldnt help Razia to understand the car more.

Somehow I don't buy it... I think a check didn't clear and they are acting all political while Razia's management works it out.

Wouldn't be the first time some sponsors leave it a bit late. Doesn't mean he's out of Marussia before the season even started. It's not like Marussia has lots of alternatives lined up anyway. I also find it hard to believe he'd rather spend another year in GP2 - nobody expects the Marussia to fight for anything other than tenth in the constructors and he only has to beat Chilton, while in GP2, it would probably be pretty hard to improve on last year's second place. I don't think there's anything to this story.
